Should one order a SB3, or will there be something of a new SB4 shortly after the holidays? Has anyone heard anything regarding this?

Heh, more black...it looks almost as black as my Denon AVR-5805!

Now how soon until the same treatment is applied to the transporter?

Love it!

mine's backlit, I don't see why they'd manufacture the same remote without backlight. It's probably cheaper to just spit out one board.

Nice, do you ship the front bezels seperately as upgrades? (my whole

Apart from the remote and black front are the internals the same? dac chip etc? Is there a SB4 planned?
I'm thinking of buying a SB3 soon and also thought about waiting incase theres a new one coming out

I agree with Leo:) I was only wondering if an SB4 is right around the corner. It would be silly to purchase an SB3 when one has been planned for a release soon. Anyone have it on authority about this?

None more black rocks. The one small thing I didn't like about the SB3 was the shiny silver panel.

You guys are great - always adding more value to what is already one the best bargains in audio history!

SlimDevices have a very strict policy of not discussing unannounced products, even to confirm or deny their existence. You'll know about any new device at the same time we all do!

EDIT: Of course, there's always the 30-day return policy which acts as a decent insurance policy against a new product being released right after you purchase.

I take it back.. I bought an extra remote to upgrade my squeezebox at home to the new style.. this one is backlit. The one that came with my new squeezebox is NOT backlit.. poop!

I'll have to see if I can take them apart without damaging them to see what's different. :(

Arrrrrrgh :-(

I ordered an SB3 from Amazon UK last Friday but they are on back order with an anticipated delivery 16-18th of December.

Will I receive and old style SB3 or the new style? If itís likely to be the old style, I will cancel it and consequently miss out on it for Christmas.

Does anyone have a definitive answer? please.

Carl.

The All-Black SB3 is a new model, so your existing order must be for either White or Black/Silver. I doubt Amazon will automatically decide to send you a Black/Black one. If you really want the Black/Black model you'll need to order from somewhere that has it. Slimdevices are showing it as in stock and ready to ship, most of the UK resellers seem to have very low or zero stock of any of the SB models.

Ok, here's the internals of the non-backlit remote:

As you can see, there are traces/pads for the LEDs, and some other bits.

The Transponder remote, with cool backlit buttons works
great on ancient old SqueezeBoxen, including my SB1/g

Much cooler than the old one.

Hi, my first post here after getting my SB3 last week from Broadbandbuyer.co.uk.

Mine came with the new Transporter-style (non-backlit) remote. It looks much better than the original one which had been criticised in some reviews for looking a little cheap.

The only difference I can see to the original remote (looking at the picture in the manual - that needs updating!) is a slightly different button layout and the addition of a 'sleep' button. It's a very nice remote to use and looks really good in shiny black.

To have gone to the trouble of redesigning the remote and not have
added some sort of knob/roller/spinner to let you traverse lists
faster is really unfortunate..

If you've used the knob on the Transporter, you'll realize that it does anything but let you traverse lists faster. Using the buttons on the remote is much faster.

Hmm, that'd be even more unfortunate to have shelled out $2k
and the knob's not even useful. Did they do no user testing?

Why do you say that? I don't use the knob much myself but that's because I'm not standing next to it very often. When I have, it seems to work fine.

as with anything, some will like it others not. The simple act of
having to get up and cross the room to use it makes it slower than the
arrow buttons. Aside from that, I felt it worked wonderfully when it
was a bit looser, but then others started to complain that it was too
loose, too fast and wrapped too easily at the end of the list. So, it
gets tighter. Naturally, I believe my opinion should have mattered
more, but I'm not going to pretend to suggest that my opinion should
be shared by everyone who has used the knob.

Actually the SliMP3 was controlled by that particular Sony universal remote. I'm guessing the photo was from those days.

But as Michael Herger says, it appears she gets around. She may not be Sean's GF after all. :-) Or it could be a stock photo.

True, but IMO it's a good investment. You never know what you might need in
the future. If you buy a wired one and later need to put it in a place
where you cannot conveniently run wires, you'll probably end up paying $50+
to make that happen.

Thanks for the suggestion Mitch, but I've adequately wired my home with Ethernet cables on "strategic" points. Plus I have a couple of powerline devices which helps in case of needing LAN where there is not.
So I've already spent the $50 ;-)

Hello,
A small practical point: The Artists' tag shows 4 artists under Godfather or iTunes, order A B C D (order chosen according to a given logic) the SB3 & Slimserver show D A B C. Slimserver, under Title Format shows Artist nothing more, obviously (to me).
What is the logic that's applied by Slimserver to organize the order in which Artists' names (separated by ";") are being displayed in Slimserver and SB3s?

Not sure where you live, but a Google for anodizing services just
turned up quite a few options. I bet you could get the faceplate
colored for less than the $50 price difference, especially if you want
to get your existing faceplates done at the same time.

The new candy-bar shaped remote is available separately, and the backlit version too - the new SB3s use the same remote but not backlit:

It may work out expensive to ship to Italy, but cheaper than a new SB3 if all you want is the remote.

Are my remote "broken" on my second SB3, or is it by design?
