View Full Version : popping at the beginning of every track after 6.5 upgrade

I haven't posted in a while because I have been happily trucking
along with
6.2 something and didn't have any problems at all. I dread the thought
of ever upgrading my SlimServer because it always seems to break
something
and guess what, it did!

Now at the start of every track there is a little pop. It is very
annoying. I tried searching
this list but I couldn't find anyone having the same problem. I
upgraded to the
latest nightly and it doesn't fix the problem.

I am OS X 10.4.8 with a large library (1.3TB) of mostly Apple Lossless.

Please help!

Yup...I can confirm...same thing happening to me with SlimServer Version: 6.5.1 - 10337

Using exclusively mp3 rips. Flawless performance before, but now, on about 50% of playback, I hear a loud static pop when each track begins. the problem seems unpredictable, as it will occur sometimes and other times, not. No pattern as to which "album" generates the pop, so I was waiting to see if I could identify a pattern before posting.

Any ideas?

Me too, it's the reason I'm sticking 6.3.1 and not upgrading again.

Well, for Harry (but not utowana - don't know about matt as you've not said what you are using) the following bug may be relevant... http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=4366 If this aplies to you then add your name to the Cc list and post any additinal info that will help the devs fix it.

for utowana's mp3's, is this relevant ? http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=3852

I think utowana's bug is http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=4312 and that should have been fixed with the nightly's from around 18 October and firmware 67

I am getting a similar problem when switching between Squeezebox and digital inputs. Using 6.5.1 - 10571 . Needs to be a short delay between switching to enable a lock to the digital stream or something. Using WinXP SP2.

Thanks for the input. I delayed feedback til I had a chance to see whether install of latest daily worked. Seems OK now. Still need some time, but early reviews last night were good (no popping sound). Appreciate the input...great forum for help! For what it is worth: I am now using: SlimServer Version: 6.5.1 - 10758 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252. Using wireless SB, but caved in and cabled it just so it is a bit faster and more responsive. Also, in the for what it is worth department...I NEVER have the popping sound when streaming to WinAmp on my desktop computer (where SS is located). All of the popping occurs (hopefully "occurred") when using the SB. Not sure if that is a clue. Love the server, love the box!

Have you tried adjusting Player Settings - Audio - Audio Startup Time?
