View Full Version : How do I set player menu settings globally (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx)

I carefully edited my player menus the way I'd like to see them ... only to find out they only apply to only 1 IP address. How can I tell Slimserver to use my menu selections for all IP addresses?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, no splashy easy answer on this one.

You can either go through the same steps for each player or copy and
paste the section through the slimserver.pref file

There is an open request for something that would help, but
implementation timeline is unknown:

You can't, at least not using the UI. If you shut down slimserver, find the
slimserver.pref file, you will find a block of settings for each player (ip
address). You can copy the settings from the player you have set up
correctly to the other players if you are careful.

Darn! I was hoping there was a way to insert wildcards or at least subnets).

I am still very new to Slimserver, but the more I use it, the more I realize it is in it's very early stages of development.

Troll much?

That wasn't necessary.

That wasn't necessary.

Agreed.

There are quite a few desireable features that SS doesn't have, especially in the UI/usability area. It is getting better, albeit slowly. I guess we all have to make our own tradeoffs in terms of usability and functionality. IMHO there are many parts of SS which are very well developed, it can do some pretty smart stuff, which is why I use it.

The best thing is to ask the questions and to contribute to the enhancement requests.

This is one of the oddest statements I've read in this forum.

Hey ceejay, thanks your civil reply back. I will look for the right place to post feature enhancement suggestions. I love this product (especially since its free), and can't wait to see it evolve with a few much needed features!

Well, copying and pasting blocks of the slimserver.pref file is pretty easy. Just be sure to (a) stop slimserver before editing the file, and (b) make a backup of the pref file before editing just in case you botch things.

Thanks! I just tried it, and it worked. :)

If I don't care about settings, is there any way to get slimserver to offer a default playlist regardless of IP? I sometimes connect to slimserver from my cellphone with a dynamic IP, and I get nothing streamed until I log into the web UI and create a playlist for the new IP.
