Hello everyone,

I must be overlooking something and I am sure it is posted somewhere and
there must have been discussions before. I apologize for asking this newbie
question:

I can see in Mac OSX where I am am to put a PLUGIN, I can also see in the
SLIMDEVICES.com website where to get some of these great PLUGINS but...

How do I create a .PM file to place in the PUGINS folder? I try to copy the
posted PERL Code from some of the community contributors but of course when
I cut and paste the code in a TEXT EDITOR and try to save as a .PM file is
says I must save as .RTF file?

Again sorry for asking such a Newbie question and all comments / replies
welcome.

Regards

Brent

Are you doing this with TextEdit?

The default file format for TextEdit is RTF which is no good for saving
program files.

Try going into the TextEdit preferences and changing the default format
for new documents to plain text.
Now when you start TextEdit it will create a new untitled plain text
document that you should be able to paste code into - and save as
"whatever.pm" with no probs.

Craig.

No, TextEdit will append ".rtf" to any file it saves. You can then not
remove that extension using the Finder. The only way to do that is
(leave out all the quotation marks):
1. open /Utilities/Terminal.app
2. type "cd " then drag the folder which contains your file onto the
Terminal window
3. then press enter
4. type "mv YOURFILENAME.txt YOURFILENAME.pm" to change the extension
to .pm

Use the Finder to move the saved plugin file to
~/Library/SlimDevices/Plugins.

Try BBEdit or SubEthaEdit instead of TextEdit -- they're much more
flexible and can save any text format, (except Word :)

well, not if you change the preferences to tell TextEdit to create
simple text files.
