AAC / limited / Russian characters

After tracking down that my wireless is (suddenly) too slow to work without the lame solution, I've uncovered a new problem. Slim will not play AAC files with Russian characters in the song titles (possibly album titles, but I think it is just the song titles). MP3s are fine. Band names that are in cyrillic also appear fine.

These songs were working fine before the lame change.

I have tried to look at the log file but may not have the right options turned on. I can see the following, that in attempting to parse the filename, it shows %DC type characters for the band name (indicating perhaps it recognizes this is a foreign charcter set?), but nonsense characters for the song name.

Any ideas?

(I should note, I also installed TrackStat at about the same time).

Confirmed Perl issue with double-byte characters

I have now clarified this issue with technical support. Apparently Perl on windows will not work with double-byte characters in the filename. There is little likelihood that this will be fixed anytime soon.

The only solution is to rename all the files concerned. Since I manage my library with iTunes and it does not seem to have a preference to preclude this behaviour, I am SOL. If this is important to anyone else, you may want to keep in mind when purchasing.

If they're MP3 files, an external tagger could do the job. Check out mp3tag.
