View Full Version : Three MusicMagic Questions

I just started to detect MusicMagic (MusicIP 1.7.1 with Slimserver 6.5.1) and have the following three questions:

1. In MusicMagic I have changed the number of tracks to be included in a MusicMagic Mix to 30. However in Slimserver the MusicMagic Mixes are still created with 12 tracks only. Isn't that number not taken from the MusicMagic settings? If not, where can I adjust this value?

2. In MusicMagic I can select multiple tracks to be the basis for a MusicMagic Mix. In Slimserver (and in particular with my squeezebox) I can only use one track as basis. Is there a way to create a MusicMagix Mix based on more than one track in Slimserver and in particular also with my squeezebox using the remote?

3. Is there any advantage for squeezbox users to buy the premium version of MusicIP? I did not find a description about the differences.

Thanks a lot for any suggestions from experienced MusicMagic users.

I just found the answer to item 1. All MusicMagic options can be set in the player options (plugin page).

So I only need answers for items 2. and 3.

You can take other browseable itmes like artists, albums, playlists as
seed. If you want to pick a few particular songs, you can always select
them in MIP, create a mix and send them to Slimserver using the "Send To"
button (click right).

Not for me as I'm using MIP only as a mixer for Slimserver.

What you do in musicmagic, stays in musicmagic. Look in the server
settings under MusicMagic once you have it enabled.
There is also a page in player settings, under plugins for making
player-specific adjustments

I don't find a "Sent to Slimserver". On which item do I have to right click?

It's the button "Send to" in MIP's toolbar (second from the right, a
headphone). Be sure Slimserver is running and there's at lease one player
ready.

BTW: I just noticed MIP is recognized as UPnP provider (SlimServer 6.5.1).
I can browse its collection, filters and playlists from the main menu,
"Mixer (build 561)" - not a very reasonable menu name, but it does work :-)

When I click on "Send to" Windows Media Player" is opened and an error message appears that it cannot play the song (sometimes it says the media format is unvalid, sometimes the track is corrupted). I found no way to change the send to button to send the songs to Slimserver. In the MusicMagic options I can only choose between Windows Mediaplayer and Standard.

Any further ideas?

Hi,
With MusicIP running stop and restart slimserver.

In Music IP look at Options/ send to. I can select Slimserver from there.
However, i just make all my mixes through the slim web interface or my
squeezeboxen.

For your questions 2 and 3 i think the answer to both is 'no'. the pay
version allows you to create waypoint mixes (i think i read about that on
here) but you'd create them in MusicIP and send them whereas i run MusicIP
in server mode so only open the application to scan new music

You can make a mix out of a playlist. However, that'll take a rescan (as far as I know).

2. In MusicMagic I can select multiple tracks to be the basis for a MusicMagic Mix.

I've been using MusicMagic/SlimServer together for several months now, and if there is a way to do this through the SlimServer interface, I have not found it.

3. Is there any advantage for squeezbox users to buy the premium version of MusicIP? I did not find a description about the differences.

At the time that I purchased the premium version of MusicIP, that was the ONLY way to get the SlimServer integration. That was when they called themselves Predixis though...if you have found that you can do SlimServer integration with the free version, then the primary reason to upgrade is probably just to show your support.

Actually look at this, this is the Free vs. Premium chart: http://www.musicip.com/mixer/features.jsp

At the moment the free version works with slimserver so the premium version seems not to be necessary.

Since without the "playlist trick" mixes can only be based on single songs, it would be great if a "more like this" or a "less like this" option would exist from the squeezebox interface like it is available in the MusicMagic application. If a mix based on a single song comprises too many not matching songs the mix could be improved with these options. Would it be possible to extend the MusicMagic plugin to include these options into the track info menu which is shown after pressing RIGHT on the remote (similar to the "add to favorite entry)?

always psosible, but currently the musicIP api does not include a
'more like this' function. It is more focussed on getting song info
and creating mixes from a set of parameters. You can, however, move
right from track info, select the artist, move right and get the song
with the mixable icon. Setting up the musicIP settings, you can have
the option to create a new mix, allowing adjustment of parameters on
the fly (server settings->musicmagic, "player settings for each mix").
This way, you can create new mixes based on that song and adjust the
mix parameters until the list suits you better.
