it goes on and on - i buy a MAC G3 they change to USB - i purchased a MAC G5 - Dual and they change to Intel processors - i buy a SB1 and they improve the display - i buy a SB2 they move to SB3 - i was just about to buy a Transporter they sell the company...

you know what i'm going to downgrade to 6.3.1. from 6.5 regain my Salling Clicker functionality for my SB2 and cancel my order for a Transporter -

at some point you've got to find happiness...

now about that name Logitek in my rack will never do - they need to be just as progressive in regards to branding the Transporter as purchasing SD and put a new high-end name on it and then maybe after a year or two i'll rethink the whole thing.

i'm out!

Don't worry, that name will never be in your rack. It will be Logitech at best ;)
If you buy a transporter today it will still have the Slimdevices brand on it.
I can't believe you and some others are so obsessed with brand names. After all it's still the same product and the same people.

Try looking for happiness in something other than your stuff.

understand a typo when you see it..

understand perception that's confirmed by experience is worthy of concern..as in logitech product experience has been lack-luster at best..

understand the value a company adds when they back their brand with quality in terms of support, customer service and product - companies like apple computer, slim devices and many others..

understand that if you think happiness in the context of my post was directed at my life - then you indeed need to get a life!

Wow, give it a chance! The purchase was announced two days ago.

Sheesh. Talk about jumping the gun.

A Transporter purchased today was not made 2 days ago.

Also, it's powered by SlimServer. SlimServer is still there, it's still open-source, it's still free. Even if the download page is removed, anyone can still legally upload it anywhere they like for others to use.

I understand its pretty hard to see where you're going with your head
stuck up your arse too...

No offence intended, but what were you expecting? That Apple would eschew
USB because it suited you better? That Apple would wait for IBM to rev the
power CPU for more speed and less wattage (when they were clearly off
building Cell for Sony and cared less for the comparably small volumes
Apple would sell). That Slimdevices would turn down what I am sure was a
lucrative and otherwise attractive offer because not all of Logitech's
products were fabulous every day of their existence?

For me, I'm happy the guys have had a chance to raise the bar. Whatever
else Logitech does, they will spread these devices much further and much
more widely than SD ever could have alone. And as one of the original
buyers, owner of two of the hand assembled slim's, I'm happy to see the
Sean and the guys kick on. And they're still involved. I have no doubt
they will not suddenly eschew quality or good design principles. These
boys have no need to gain my trust. They got that long ago and this sale
will not change that.

And even if it did, I have what I paid for. Rather more than I paid for by
my reckoning. These are great devices and even if it all goes pear shaped
tomorrow, they will still work and I have no doubt will continue to do so
for a long time. Thats what makes these great pieces of hardware, its what
makes the server software as fabulous as it is and frankly I will have no
hesititation recommending both to anyone who asks me "what that funny
looking clock over there is".

Isn't that "audiophile" by nature? ;) <ducks and runs>

Cheers.

We're not all audiophiles here (at least I thought so) and this isn't even the audiophile forum. If I went by name I would never have bought that SliMP3 player a couple years back ;)
But you've got a point there ;)

since you understand - that means you have experience then - spoken like a true authority as one who never takes his head out of his ass (no offense taken)...that would require caring about what you said!

just for clarity, a fix went into 6.5.1 a few days ago to hopefully fix the problem with salling clicker, to allow them proper time to migrate to the cli.

np. fwiw, I'd still go ahead with the transporter. It's a good
product and is certainly branded as Slim Devices for the near future.
The sale of SD may be shocking news, but it's the same people in the
same office that will be dealing with the product for some time to
come. No one can take it away from you and no one can remove firmware
that is on it.

For all we know jackbooted Logitech thugs could be rampaging through the warehouse, tearing out quality components from the Transporter and replacing them with surplus preamp stages from leftover $30 multimedia speakers. Also, Slimserver is being modified to show an RSS feed of Logitech's press room once every 30 minutes. ;)

I second this, listening to my Transporter right now - I've only had it for about 6 hours.

If this is something that appeals to you, you really don't know what you're missing out on, Masterbaron. I have very modest audio equipment and I really notice the difference.

this is the type or feedback and responsiveness i've come to know here in the forum - and no i'm not an audiophile but i have benefited from the information and exchange here for about two years. this is the kind of thing i feel will disappear and i've got to tell you while you have not heard much from me - it is as family as i've come to know your personalities and value added.

this actually comes at a good time for me as it will cause me to wait on the Transporter - i'm always an early adopter and have paid dearly for that - i will wait this one out both on the product and it's development and the state of the art of media streaming..

thanks all - i'm always lurking...
