Hello - I have a few questions. I got SlimServer up and running on my file server. I am also able to stream music to my workstations. Here are the three problems I'm experiencing:

1. For some reason the RadioGuide by radiotime no longer works on either the file server or the workstations. I get this message:

There was an error loading the remote feed for RadioGuide by radiotime: (Failed to connect to http://opml.radiotime.com/Index.aspx (500 Internal Server Error) )

2. I'm desperately trying to get radio stations in the Los Angeles area and many of them won't work. For example: asx files won't work. KBIG 104 looks like this (and I don't know how to get it to work.):

3. I remember reading somewhere that I could set up the asx as a separate playlist. But, I have no idea how to import a playlist into the slimserver. Also, I would prefer to not have one station as a separate playlist.

4. Is there any way to just create playlists from NotePad and somehow import them into the SlimServer?

Thanks,
Mike

Hi, Mike. I am also a new user and have found Radiotime to be very spotty and unreliable. Using SqueezeNetwork or setting up my own radio station favorites seems to be much more dependable. You might find this link of California streaming stations to be helpful. Be sure to select the Winamp (non Real Audio)format icons.

Thanks, I have that link. But, that's just the problem, almost all the Los Angeles stations I like are non-winamp.

I just don't understand it. They all play in windows media player. Why do they make it so hard to listen to their stations. You would think they would want us to listen.

I have a plug in for my SageTV HTPC that uses the SlimPlayer and I can't get the asx files to work. I want to play stations like KBIG 104.3, KOST 103.5 and a few others. Is there any way to do this?

Thanks,
Mike

They want you to listen on their webpage, seeing their ads.

Some of them make it very hard for you to do otherwise, continually changing URLs, embedding the files in a proprietary player, etc.

Try URL Snooper at http://www.donationcoder.com/Software/Mouser/urlsnooper/ but even that is often fooled.

The AlienBBC plugin allows you to listen to RealAudio streams. You'll probably need the "Install pack for SlimServer 6.5/7.0" off the website:

Yes - but you and I both know the LA Stations should get some brains. People who listen simply minimize the web page and work on other stuff on their computers while listening to the music. So, the ads are worthless and only keep more people from listening to their stations. After all, one can listen to the stations without the written ads on the radio anyway. It makes no sense and is quite frustrating.

Oh yes, I agree, but about radio stations in general. I don't know too much about LA stations, living in London, Ontario, Canada. ;-)

Yeah, it is frustrating. Playing devil's advocate for a second though, that bandwidth isn't free.

True, but the bandwidth sometimes is as low as 20kbps. Even though it isn't free, isn't that why they have commercials? I don't see that they have to give use commercials on top of picture and written ads that we don't see anyway because I would be that at least 95% of users just minimize that screen anyways. So instead, they lose viewers.

As per post #1.

How to play the URL
1. Paste them into Tune and then save as a favorite
or
2. Install MyPicks plugin and create your own list

Since the URLs are WMA playable via Tune-in then you could also enter them into your Squeezenet account.

You should upgrade to latest 6.5.1 as it has firmware upgrades handling buffer depletion which I found happened a lot with these URLS.
