View Full Version : blast of static from squeezebox

Just got my squeezebox, set it up, and started to play tunes. It's
great! I hooks neatly up with my iTunes library and was fairly
painless to set up.

One problem, though: when it makes the transition from one track to the
next, it occasionally plays the new track as static, not as music.
This only seems to happen when the new track is AIFF format (anything
I've ripped in the last year is this way). MP3s, even at 320kbps, seem
to be OK. The squeezebox is running wireless with good signal so there
should be enough bandwidth to provide the data (and even if this were a
dropout problem, I wouldn't expect static!)

Any hints?

thanks,
brian

Brian, are you using the digital output, by chance? I've run into a
similar symptom with my squeezebox running into the optical input of my
Samsung HTIB. I pretty much concluded that it's the HTIB that's having
the problem.

Nope -- this is happening on the analog output. I'm running the signal
into two different preamps and each plays static.

Hmmm....

Question: does this happen only when playing through from the end of
one track to beginning of the next?

Does it ever happen when you use fwd/rev to change tracks?

I think what's going on here is that the stream data is getting
misaligned, probably due to some tag information on end of the previous
track. Can you determine if this happens consistently with a particular
pair of tracks?

Exactly right. If I play from track to track I get the static instead
of the second song. If I advance using fwd to the next track, then
there's no problem. It's consistently reproducible with the several
AIFF's I've tested (all ripped with iTunes.) I can send you a file if
you can't reproduce it.
