Hello,

I do not know if it is appropriate to post this here, if it's the wrong place please forgive me...

I have a wish list for SlimDevices, being a happy owner of 3 Squeezeboxes.

Why don't you build a SLIM car stereo, with just the FM radio, a SD slot and an USB slot, a good power amp, all in a standard DIN enclosure.

I would buy two tomorrow morning, one for my car, and one for my boat.

This thought had crossed my mind - but, for more than three years, I've had a PhatBox in the car.

Phatbox: I don't want to add anything any wiring or extra hw in the trunk, just want to be able to pop in a card/usb disk with my music.

Ah, no extra wiring. I just unplugged and unbolted the OEM CD changer, and fitted the PhatBox in its place.

What you need is the late, lamented empeg, who built most of what you want seven years ago, were bought out by Rio and all but died under the weight of terrible marketing and lack of focus from the parent company (the core of the original UK company is now part of Sigma Designs). You can still sometimes pick up empeg car players on eBay and there's still an active development community.

As well as the empeg car player they also built the Rio Receiver (aka Dell Audio Receiver) - arguably the first generation Squeezebox - and Rio Karma portable which is still the best all-round portable music player in many respects.

Although I didn't purchase one, I recall that when I was looking for a cheap head unit last summer some of the generic brand models at Best Buy had something like this. Here's one:

eq72521,

thanks for your link BUT, this cannot read flac files.

Beside that, I would never trash my dashboard with such cheap plastic... you know, SD has spoiled us SB3 lovers with such a smart design...

You never had an SB1 or 2 then?

Would love to be able to filter out artists or albums that only appear x number of times.. optional of course and the artist/album should still show up when searched for directly.

I posted this request here as well before seeing this thread -

Ah yes! I haven't heard from/of Hugo Fiennes for quite a long time. I wonder what he's up to now.

I don't know if it's even possible to have all that kind of functionality from SB3 inside a small portable device.

Soon there will be public WiFi networks in all major cities I guess.
Netgear has made a skype-phone...

I'd like to buy either a add-on to my iPod that enables me to listen to Pandora/SN over Wifi, or a full standalone streaming SlimPod...

I'd like to be able to upload m3u files to my squeezenetwork and have them as playlists in favorites.

Thanks

ModelCitizen,

yes, I have an SB2 also, but SB3 is just grand.
Compare the Ipod to other players. No game.

To be more precise about my car stereo of choice, I would like an USB port in front, for card memories, and one on the back, to hook up an hd, with a cable.

Please take note, Mrs. SlimDevices.

I would say the chances of SlimDevices developing a unit that didn't require a server and had its own storage (either as shipped or that you can add later) is slim.

If it did all this it would basically be an MP3 player, not eactly a Slim device is it?

SD have stated before that they will not allow you to edit or delete files through either the web interface or the remote. SS is not a tag or library manager.

Glad to hear it! Besides, it's a good idea for the user that is running slimserver (eg, the imaginary user 'slim' or 'slimserver') _not_ to have write privileges on the music library.

Don't be dissin' my SB2, buddy :) Actually, I must admit that the SliMP3's
design was one of the tipping point factors for me, and I kinda miss it. I
don't miss the character-based screen and dinky buffer though.

I liked the very first batch(s) that didn't have the metal case covering the PCB and VFD :)

Yes, something similar to Rio Car and in production would be lovely. :)
