View Full Version : No library after upgrade to 6.5

I think I need some serious help here:

Running Mandriva Linux 2006

Upgraded via rpm from 6.3 to 6.5

Slimserver initially wouldn't start because of missing perl modules, so I tried to build them. The DBD one wouldn't compile until I installed mysql 5.0, including devel libraries.

So, after an hour of screwing around, slimserver finally ran, but now there are "0" albums in library and the rescan function does nothing.

And I don't have any idea how to determine what's wrong. I assume it's a sql problem, but where to I even begin to find the problem?? I turned on sql and mysql debugging and go no useful info..

This is very frustrating, and any help would be appreciated..

stop the service: sudo /etc/init.d/slimserver stop
run command-line: /usr/local/slimserver/slimserver.pl --d_sql
--d_mysql --d_scan --d_import

that's a start. Now you should see any mysql startup problems, or any
problems causing the scan to fail.

alternatively, run the service, set the above debug flags from server
settings->debugging then start a "clear library and rescan".

from a terminal, run: tail -f /tmp/slimserver.log
or open http://serverip:9000/log.txt and view bits of the log in a
browser window. you can also just wait and look at the log later.

if you feel up for it, I highly recommend the command-line steps I
gave first. You have access to more information (startup and and
non-slimserver error dumps)

Just a shot in the dark -- do you have a music directory specified?

OK, I did what you suggested. I've attached the output.

I never even got the chance to start a scan before it crashed.
(However, when starting as a service, it WOULD run)

Ben

Yes, that was the first thing I checked.

According to that log, mysql is quitting because you are trying to run it as root, and mysql doesn't like that, as it's a security risk.

Easiest (and safest) way to get around that is to create a user for the slimserver (and thus the mysql process) to run as, and then invoke slimserver as that user.

Could be that that just such a user was already created as part of the install process. Check /etc/passwd to see if you have some kind of a slimserver user.

Thanks for the help on getting debug out kdf. I am running the Slimserver on Ubuntu 6.06 and here the paths are a little different:

Stop Slimserver:
sudo /etc/init.d/slimserver stop

Start Slimserver:
sudo /etc/init.d/slimserver start --d_sql --d_mysql --d_scan --d_import

And fetch log with command:
tail -f /var/log/slimserver/slimserver.log

My problem was the permissions on folders and flac files (error was: 'Permission denied'). Read, write and execution access was only granted for the user. I ran
sudo chmod +rwx * -R
on my music catalog, and after that the music files again appears in Slimserver :-D At the same time i discovered a bunch of cue sheet errors (not fatal) which im going to look at next.
