    RFC: slimdevices.com mailing list configuration

I have noticed that the slimdevices.com mailing lists send out
all postings with a Reply-To: of the list address. This
forces all replies to go back to the entire list, even if what
you intended was to direct a response to the poster.

I content that it would be preferable to NOT do this and let
people who want to reply on-list just do a reply-all. Simple
reply would go back to the message originator, reply-all would
go to the originator as well as the list.

    Thoughts?

*some people* make that mistake once, hopefully not twice

since most responses will probably be of general interest to everyone,
doesn't it stand to reason that responses should be sent 'reply to list?

I vote no. The majority of lists I'm on default to reply-to-list, and
the purpose of a mailing list is arguably to carry forth discourse among
all members. My replies to this or any other list far outnumber private
replies to list members. T'aint broke; don't fix.

I agree. Although I _have_ written an AppleScript for Eudora that
forces a reply to the sender, not to the reply-to address, and use it
every so often. I wish more mailers would give you the ability to
_override_ reply-to easily, but I suppose that's sort of against the
        spirit of the header. :-)

FWIW, when Mutt sees a Reply-To, it asks if you want to use it. If you say
no, it then moves to the From: address. With Kmail, all you need do is
right-click the sender's address at the top of the window and select "Send
reply to...". I hope I never need to discover how Lotus Notes handles these
          things.

Highly disagree, to the point that I've written a page about how
annoying the lists that don't set Reply-To are.
