My SqueezeBox arrived a day ahead of the UPS schedule. Yippee! I didn't think
the digital out difference would be so noticable to my less than golden ears,
but Wow!

But... In the first tests, I'm getting occasional bursts of white noise at the
beginning of tracks, and sometimes when switching to the next track, I get
nothing but white noise. (once, I got a heavily distorted track full of
noise) Also, occasionally switching tracks gets just silence. In these
cases, stop/start on the web interface restores playback.

Vitals: SqueezeBox firmware V5; SlimServer CVS, refreshed today at 18:15 EST;
Using CAT5 net (need to rearrange my AP to get a better signal); TOSLINK
output going into a Samsung HT-DB600 receiver. First tests with 5.0.1 server
were worse, BTW.

I'll do some more testing from the front room so I can see the Squeeze's
display. I don't know just yet if it thinks it's playing when it noises out.

Roy,

I haven't heard of this before.

1) Are you playing MP3s or AIFFs?
2) Do you get the same thing on the analog outputs, or is it just on
the s/pdif?

Thanks,
Sean

MP3s, all 256 kb/s CBR for now.

Haven't checked the analog out, but I'll do that shortly.

Just the s/pdif. When it happened again, I switched over to the analog outs
and everything was going along fine. And when I switched back to the
optical, there was no more noise, just music. So I think it's probably my
cheap home theater box and not the squeeze. Also looks like hitting play to
force a restart clears up the noise blast. Probably sync problems in the
optical input of the receiver. Sorry I blew up. :)
