Thanks for the reply Dean.

As I don't have a Squeezebox, would you be able to give me a rough idea of
the performance hit for on the fly decoding on your computer, and also how
saturated the network would become (in particular a wireless network) if
uncompressed files were streamed to the Squeezebox.

The decoding is quite cheap, no more than a couple of percent,
depending on the CPU speed. The re-encoding to MP3 using the LAME
encoder uses more CPU power and depends on the CPU type and speed.
(LAME is much faster on PCs than Macs.)
