Problem solved with a system rebuild. Go figger.

Not a Slim problem at all, I don't think.

I appreciate the great help you guys had to offer - ultimately pointed me in the right direction, with some assist from Kevin at Slim Support as well.

I'm in music again, it sounds great, and I can't be happier.

Now I want a Transporter.

The error message you have in teh subject does not appear anywhere in
the code. I'm not sure how <songname> information could ever be
available to the firmware. If you hadn't made it clear that you were
using 6.5, I'd be thinking you must be playing from SqueezeNetwork

Is there a way you could connect on wired ethernet long enough to rule out any wireless issues? This is where I would start...

Good luck!

Thanks guys for the start.

Where I said <songname> I actually meant that:

On the SB3 display, when the error occurs, the top line of the display says:

"Problem: Can't Connect To Server For:"

The next line displays the song information per the Player settings.

Once the error posts, after a second or 2 it usually goes to "Stopped" on the first line and continues to scroll the song on the main line, but sometimes just returns to the Date/Time display (opposed to "getting stuck" or moving on to the next song).

Does that help any? If not, I can take a photo and post it.

On wired vs wireless: I'm pretty sure I had the same error when wired, but I'll move the SB so I can wire it up and see it I have the same results, and will post back. For the moment, pls assume I have the problem both ways...

thanks again guys.

ah ok, this is the localised output. The errors comes as a result of
a failure to connect or access a remote stream. As with anything of
this type, there is only so much infomation that can be put on on the
player screen. d_source debugging option will give more details in
the log, possible d_direct_stream or d_http_async depending on what
type of audio you are trying to play at the time. Running from
command-line will give you the ability to observe any raw errors from
the OS, such as read error when accessing files.

Cool, I'll try debugging in a, bit and post what I come up with.

When you say run at the command line, do you mean start the slimserver as an exe at the cmd line, or is there something I need to do differently on the client side also (rather than use the web gui)? Do I have to pass any cmd line params in order to get debug info when starting the server (or if applicable client) at the cmd line?

fwiw - problem is re-created wired or wireless.

c:\program files\slimserver\server\slim.exe --d_source

or you can have it all dump to a log file:
c:\program files\slimserver\server\slim.exe --d_source --logfile=c:\mylog.txt

make sure you stop the service first, as it will fail to run a second
intance. If you want to add any debug settings after starting, you can
always change them from the web ui, but the command above will start
with d_source on.

> fwiw - problem is re-created wired or wireless.

could be file system related, a permissions problem, renamed files,
bad hard drive access, etc.

To add to kdf's post, here are the best debugging options for track ing down why something won't play.

--d_scan --d_source --d_directstream --d_remotestream --d_parse

Just tried complete uninstall and install of the current release software. Same problem (oddly tho, at a different point in my test song).

Also, I could be crazy, but this software seems to sound better....?

Thanks for the addtl info guys. Will do the debug thing after return from DQ with the family. (Priorities!)
