View Full Version : Looking to buy a Squeezebox 3 Query

I have two technical queries if anyone can help:

1 - Do I need to use the slim server software as I already have a networked storage system in use (i.e can the SB3 search this permanantly connected network storage - SNAP with GuardianOS)?

2 I pay a subscription to Digitally Imported music for CD quality internet radio, will this work on the SB3 as they normally use cookies or a user name / password?

Help is naturally apreciated as I am desparate to buy this.

I don't know the details of your setup, but the SqueezeBox is a slim
device. Literally, it is fairly dumb. It needs the server software to
feed it music from your network disks, internet radio, etc.

But the software is free, fairly easy to install, and you can try it
before you buy. Just use either SoftSqueeze or a streamer (I use WinAmp)
as the client instead of the SqueezeBox hardware.

I'll have to let someone else handle this one.

You will need Slimserver, as Pat says. Nothing else will do. You will be able to access the music stored on your Nas as the SS library. Whether you will be able to hack around your NAS and get SlimServer to run on it is a different matter. Try a forum search on your NAS name to see if anyone else has posted any comments about it.

I'm 99% certain you will be able to do this by making up a playlist (m3u, pls etc) with the contents something like this: http://user:pass@160.79.128.22:8020

OK. You can buy it now.
Digitally Imported looks very interesting. Think I'll try it out myself.

Well as the first time I have evr used a frum - I'M VERY IMPRESSED.

Many thanks to both Pat and MC.

I note the SS software is available in many platforms and as such either a) I'll try the other OS codes or b) I'll buy a new more compatible NAS device.

Many thanks again - I'm ordering the black model now.

You could always install slimserver now and try it out on your computer with softsqueeze before you buy. That would give you confirmation of the answers provided by above.

If you do consider buying another NAS maybe you shoud read this thread... when you have a few hours to spare. It can read a bit like War and Peace. Most entertaining.
