View Full Version : My SB 2 won't fast forward or rewind.

According to the instructions if I press and hold the skip forward or backward button I should be able fast forward or backward. This no longer works. I don't use this feature often but I do remember using it a few months ago and I can't imagine why it no longer works. Any ideas?

FFWD and REW will only work for native audio formats. On SB2, this
means mp3, wav, FLAC, wma(lossy). Ogg is also native, but currently
has a bug that prevents ffwd/rew.

could it be that your files are not one of the above formats? What
version of the server are you using?

i too have a sb2 and my ff(within a song) and rr on my remote don't work either. most of my music is in flac files and it doesn't work with any of these files. I also remember ff and rr working a few months ago but it hasn't worked for some time.

My files are all WAV but they've always been WAV and I know I was able to get the feature to work in the past. Could it be that the new version doesn't perform the same way?

Also I've found that lately the SB hasn't been responding to remote commands properly. Sometimes it takes a few seconds to implement a command and a few minutes ago I coulnd't get the SB to stop playing or shut off. I went to my computer to try it from there and found the SB paused. Something is definitely screwy.

absolutely. That doesn't mean you just skip checking the obvious and
go straight to a conclusion.
have a look at this one and see if that fits what you are seeing:

Actually I can't fast forward at all.

Did you see the additional problem I'm having with the remote. Could that be a busy server issue?

maybe. or low batteries, bad angle, fluff in the ir sender on the
remote. I never fwd/rew stuff, but I certainly use the remote. I've
noticed no general problems. There are times when moving right that
you will have a lag due to server activity. This part is a work in
progress.

Non of the above. Happened with my SB remote and my learning remote. Most recently about 3 feet away and aimed directly.
I just unplugged the SB in hopes that it would reset. It seems OK now but I'll monitor the situation.

Hmmm, it would be a real shame if, as the SB becomes more popular, the quality of service and usability declines.

Seriously: answering a few questions and doing some tests as adviced would get us further than statements about why things are so bad nowadays.

Hi Gerry,

In some threads in some other forums, notably this thread http://db.audioasylum.com/cgi/m.mpl?forum=pcaudio&n=14276&highlight=AKG+gdg&r=&session= and this one http://www4.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=193683 you mention that you converted your entire collection to Apple Lossless and noticed a difference in sound quality. Then this difference ended up being resolved as just a difference in volume caused by having soundcheck enabled, as you mention in this post: http://db.audioasylum.com/cgi/m.mpl?forum=pcaudio&n=14379&highlight=soundcheck+gdg&r=&session=
After reading that, I ended up assuming that you had the problem resolved and probably ended up keeping everything as Apple Lossless. But according to your post here, you are back to WAV again.

So, with all these conversions that you've done, could it be some mixup with the file types of some of the songs, such that you're trying the unsupported operation of fast forwarding through an Apple Lossless file?

That has nothing whatsoever to do with what I said. Referring to 6.5 as
a work in progress is fair, and honest. That is HOW things get better.
This came across as someone just looking for ways to grump; it just
make me want to leave you to your own means for finding a solution.

i'm running ss 6.3 on osx 10.4.7 and I have no rr or ff (within a song) capability at all. the bug link looks like it's a problem in windows as well.

i had a similar issue the other day. if you have 2 sb3's and they are both on and sync'd you can't seem to ffw or rw... perhaps this helps?
