Hello,

I'm having an occasional problem (roughly daily) with the squeezebox
dropping its connection to the server.

Every so often, I'll find that the squeezebox display is blank. Pressing
the power button on the remote produces the messages 'Waking up slimserver'
then 'Connecting to slimserver', but it fails after about 5 seconds.
Restarting slimserver has no effect, and an inspection of network traffic
shows that the squeezebox is not actually attempting to connect. There are
repeated ARP requests looking for the MAC address corresponding to
192.168.1.24, which are answered by 192.168.1.24, but the squeezebox gets no
further. It can be made to connect again by either cycling the power, or
going into the setup screens and re-establishing the network connection.
I've not tried leaving it for longer than about 1/2h to see if it reconnects
by itself. Interestingly, the problem always seems to be accompanied /
preceded with a few lines in the log like:

2006-08-17 12:31:34.3595 Use of uninitialized value in delete at C:\Program
Files\SlimSVN\trunk\server/Slim/Networking/Select.pm line 108.

Files\SlimSVN\trunk\server/Slim/Networking/Select.pm line 108.

occurring every few minutes, although they seem to have stopped once I've
noticed the problem.

I'm using a Squeezebox 3 (FW59) connected wirelessly with a 54g Belkin
access point using 128bit WEP, and running slimserver 6.5 r9002.

As an aside, the upgrade to Firmware 59 seems to have deleted the hostname
preference on the squeezebox. Is this as expected?

Did you ever figure out what the problem was?

I am having a similar problem, with SB2 on a linksys WRT54GX. every time a new wifi client (some other laptop) shows up, the SB2 stops, display goes blank, and i get the same results as you described, the only way to get back on the slimserver is to either unplug or to go through network setup again.

Next time this happens, just for grins, restart SlimServer and see if the SB2 then connects.

I've been having issues for a couple of months with SlimServer 6.5 running on Windows XP where the Squeezeboxes only reconnect about 1/2 the time when SlimServer is started up. Restarting the server is the cure but it sometimes takes 2 or 3 or more retries. The thing that points to the server is the fact that either both of my SB2s connect at once or neither of them do.
