I'm thinking about pumping up this old Apple Tower with more memory and a larger hard drive. I know it is limited to 120 Gig using the native HD bus.

The question is can this thing run SlimServer under OSX 10.XX? Does the G3 have enough power to push Apple Lossless via ethernet?

Just wondering if anyone else has done this with such old hardware?

You should be able to install 10.3 or 10.4 on that computer, but
it'll be pretty slow.

Consider buying a Mac mini, it'll be a lot faster and will come with
a current version of MacOS on it...

Thanks! Makes sense. Pumping up memory, HD, and maybe even the CPU would of course bring put me close to the cost of a Mini.
