View Full Version : Favorites in 6.3.x

Well it's been a while since I've listened to Internet radio. I'm playing around with it over SlimServer (not SqueezeNetwork) and I find it a little clunky to switch stations back and forth, so I took advantage of something I always see on the SB display when I list info about a track: "Press RIGHT to add to Favorites".

I did. Then I tried to recall Favorites using the Favorites button on the remote.

Aaaaaand......CRASH!!!

Killed SlimServer but good.

I started it back up and it seems to be uninjured, but should this have happened? Is Favorites a feature in 6.5 that's not implemented in 6.3.x? Kinda suspicious that there's no link to Favorites on the SS home page.

Specifically, I'm running 6.3.0 official: 6.3.0 - 8148 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252.

Have you since tried it again perhaps with a different radio station?

I just tried and I was unable to reproduce the crash. Although, I am using 6.3.1.

Could you try reproducing this with 6.3.1?

I'll try 6.3.1.

It doesn't matter which radio station I listen to. Adding it to Favorites is fine, it's pressing the Favorites button that causes the crash.

The crash occurs regardless of what I'm playing - Internet radio or my music library.

Umm, I'm wondering if the fact that I had the Favorites plugin disabled had anything to do with it...<blush>

Works fine after altering that fairly critical setting.

I can safely say I would have suggested 1,000 other things...before suggesting that.

To be honest, it still shouldn't have crashed. But glad you got it working!

sadly, too much time on drama not enough time on writing the message
from the event viewer.
just in case anyone MIGHT be keen on preventing such a crash in future
release.
still time to correct that omission.

I wouldn't. I had run into the same problem before. :-)

Sorry, this is the first time SlimServer crashed on me like that. Also clearly caused by my own stupidity.

However the log events read:

"The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( Application ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Can't use string ("") as a subroutine ref while "strict refs" in use at /PerlApp/Slim/Buttons/Common.pm line 1081."

Second crash, exact same log.

ironicly, this is a dead giveaway for a plugin problem :)
Faves is really only partly plugin, partly core. It really needs to
shed the plugin side. If a user isn't using the feature, the overhead
is very low.

Good job that Favourites is no longer a plugin then, by the sound of it!
