Well I have had fiddle but it looks like this is something for 5.0.0.2.

Reverting back to 5.0.0.0 and my internet streaming music plays without a
hicup on my SliMP3 - 5.0.0.1 just wont do it though.

Thanks, I guess it was asking a bit much...

I've just installed 5.0.0.1 but now my fav internet music stream (and many
others) will simply not play smoothly - just stutters continuously.

I'm trying to play http://195.228.156.38:8026 which is a 256kbit stream.
It's not a bandwidth issue (but sounds like it) as I have 2Mbit internet
connection and it works fine through WinAMP. And was working fine on the
SliMP3 about an hour ago! Other lower bitrate streams seem to be ok,
although even some of them stutter a bit.

Any ideas?

streams in 5.0.0 were broken. download 5.0.1 and you will see better
results.
Sync is not possible for software players. You cannot sync a slimp3 with
winamp due to buffer/latency unpredictabilities and the way streams are
handled versus hardware protocol. The best you can do is load the same
playlist to both and try to start playback for both at the same time.

Interesting. I'm listening to http://195.228.156.38:8026 right now with 5.0.1
release version and hearing no stuttering. I have heard a stutter problem on
*some* feeds which definitely sounded like a bandwidth problem, since it
stopped when I went to a lower-rate version. (specifically Radio Paradise
128KB vs. 64 KB)

Dean, how big is the SliMP3/SqueezeBox stream buffer? Winamp uses 32K, as
does XMMS. If Slim's is smaller. it could be sensitive to network congestion
that wouldn't be an issue for a player with a bigger buffer.

Toby, please remember that no matter how wide your pipe is, bottlenecks can
happen at any point between you and the stream source.

FWIW, I have similar symptoms.

Some streams will play fine for a few minutes or a few dozen minutes,
then start to stutter as if the server was constantly rebuffering, and
the stuttering just won't go. If I stop the stream when the stuttering
begins and then hit play again, the stream will restart and play just
fine... until it all starts again. The same streams will play fine
indefinitely with Winamp under similar network conditions.

I have not tested this extensively, but some streams seem to show this
behavior in a fairly consistent way. Radio Paradise is one. Roy M.
Silvernail suggested a bandwidth-related issue with Radio Paradise a few
posts back, but again, RP still works just fine in Winamp, and as far as
I remember, so did it in the last 4.x versions of the SlimServer...

This is with the official 5.0.1 release (perl version) on Windows XP SP1,
using ActivePerl 5.6.1.

Be seeing you,
Nicolas
