I use QuickMirror for this purpose and just have iTunes and/or
SlimServer rescan my music folder on the remote machine, works pretty
fast and trouble-free. www.quickmirror.com

Subject: [slim] Managing Music Libary

How are folks managing updates to your music libraries, where Slim
Server is running on a machine separate from where you accumulate and
edit the primary music libabry with iTunes?

In *this* week's flavor of my Slimp3 implemenatation, I have moved the
server to a spare machine in the Living Room (versus using my primary
machine for server *and* daily use). In the former case, I had just a
single music library in Itunes to manage. Now with a separate machine,
I need some way to identify which files have been chnaged, added,
deleted, etc in order to update the remote music library.

I realized that iTunes presents songs on the screen based on various
sorting criteria, but doesn't allow export / update of songs based on
that listing. It does if the remote library is an Ipod, however.

If the answer is to have only a single library, I'd like to hear about
that too.

Hopefully, I am missing something major, which solves this mundane but
important new challenge.

TIA

Jonathan

Thanks, Matt.

I checked out QuickMirror, which looks to be a Windows-only product.

My iTunes is on Mac OS X. My Slim Server is in Windows. The plot thickens.

If you are purely OS X... I suggest taking a look at Synk.
It's a great freeware/donation-ware app that I use to mirror/backup my
music library.
