DTS CDs actually came out before DVD-A & SACD
did, by quite a bit. I think that was
essentially why they didn't make it.

Is a 5.1 playable Squeezebox next? Perhaps one
that can also receive DVD quality video? The
server would need more power and need to have
lots of storage, and of course so would the
Squeezebox. It would certainly go along with
the MediaFurnace? idea I've had for 4-5 years, (I
own the .com name for it, not that I'm developing
anything...). I'm sure that it's going to happen
eventually though.

Ideally this should exist, since it's got optical/coax out. I think
it would be very straightforward for AC-3 audio to be streamed to the
squeezebox and then to a decoder. The real question then is, how to
pull AC-3 audio off and put it on your drive? I can do it with
DVD-Audio discs, but SACDs are impenetrable so far as I can tell.
