!

I sure hope EAC can be steered to an alternate database when freedb becomes unavailable.

It still worked yesterday.

Maybe Musicbrainz? I'm going to that site more and more. Thankfully they're upgrading their server though, I find it to be slow and not give me the results I need. Often returned searches are not even close to what I asked for - almost seems to return random results sometimes.

I'm downloading a db image tonight just to be on the safe side.

Hopefully, freedb2.org can take the load.

Sad news.

Sad news.

I'm wondering if this is the new version with "fancy web 2.0 features" referenced in the first post.

I don't think so. I think freedb2.org has the same goals as the freedb.org had.

From freedb2.org's news sections:

Will freedb2 remain free? freedb2 will be even more free than the old freedb.org. In particular, new submissions will be released into the public domain and there will be no restrictions placed on timely access to the data, such as those that were imposed by freedb.org. New submissions will be made available in real time via a number of mechanisms such RSS and XML as the resources become available to support them.

Cheers.

Perhaps there will be good news after all.

These also appear on the homepage, which might be better to monitor for
new items:
