How do you manage to get the server to actually play locally via the
soundcard??

mine doesnt...or at least I cant make it..

I simply start "mpg123 http://localhost:9000/stream.mp3" (in a while
(true) loop as it sometimes crashes). Then, in the Slimserver's web
interface, I select player "127.0.0.1" and create my playlist.

What exactly does not work with your configuration?
