Merge failure in the release or something? I was running 6.2.1 with MySQL. I installed perl-dbd-sqlite and perl-gd RPMs as directed by RPM before starting.

Thanks, Dan's uploaded a fixed RPM.

There's a possible bug in the RPM with dependency checking.

Upon trying to install the 6.3.0 RPM under Fedora Core 3 I received the
following error:

root@cormac:/root/->rpm -Uvh SlimServer_v6.3.0.noarch.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
perl-Digest-SHA1 is needed by slimserver-6.3.0-1.noarch

I then successfully installed Digest::SHA1 v. 2.11 using CPAN, my preferred
method of managing Perl modules:

---------------

CPAN.pm: Going to build G/GA/GAAS/Digest-SHA1-2.11.tar.gz

Checking if your kit is complete...
Looks good
Writing Makefile for Digest::SHA1
....
/usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.5/i386-linux-thread-multi/auto/Digest/SHA1/SHA1.bs

Files found in blib/arch: installing files in blib/lib into architecture

Installing
/usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.5/i386-linux-thread-multi/Digest/SHA1.pm
Installing /usr/share/man/man3/Digest::SHA1.3pm
Writing
/usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.5/i386-linux-thread-multi/auto/Digest/SHA1/.packlist
Appending installation info to
/usr/lib/perl5/5.8.5/i386-linux-thread-multi/perllocal.pod
/usr/bin/make install -- OK

---------------

Attempted to install Slimserver again with the following result:

---------------

root@cormac:/root/Desktop->rpm -Uvh SlimServer_v6.3.0.noarch.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
perl-Digest-SHA1 is needed by slimserver-6.3.0-1.noarch

---------------

I finally took the clue from the name given in the error that what it was
looking for was the RPM version of Digest::SHA1. Installed that RPM via
Yum, reattemped Slimserver installation and it worked perfectly.

The bottom line is that it appears that the install script is looking for
the RPM version of Digest::SHA1 and ignores that the actual module may be
already installed via other means.

* New Shoutcast plugin supporting recent changes made to the Shoutcast directory.

This new Shoutcast plugin is really great. Thanks very much! I'm getting *tons* of stations, genres, etc. listed now. I am going to have to go through them all again now to see what I have been missing :-).

Does the Rhapsody support mean there's support for streamed RealAudio as well?

Cheers

No. For Real streams use the AlienBBC plugin.

Is anyone on the list the owner of the FreeBSD port? I'm wondering when
6.3 is going to show up there (or if I need to update it myself).

Thanks!

I think you have your answer - the freebsd port is not being maintained.
If you get it working on Freebsd, please let me know what you did to
make it work. The latest version I have working in freebsd is 6.2.2.
Even then, I have one where musicmagic won't work and one where it will.
In the one where it won't work, it says there is a button to click to
enable music magic, but no button is visible.

I think you have your answer - the freebsd port is not being maintained.
Actually, it is. I e-mailed the maintainer last night, and he said he plans to update it next week. In the meantime, there's been a patch submitted if you'd like to do it yourself:

* Improved web interfaces for Podcast Browser and RSS News Ticker.

After upgrading from 6.2.2 to 6.3.x there are problems with the web interface for these features.

When I try to remove a line by deleting the URL it will no longer remove the line, also when doing various updates on the the plugin page, extra blank lines get added.

This started showing up with 6.3.0 and are still present with 6.3.1. First I though it could be because I used the Opera browser, but I just tested with IE as well.

Another issue is that sometimes SS seems to loose track of the status of the SB. It quite often display the playing screensaver and the pause screensaver on top of eachother. Also in both 6.3.0 and 6.3.1.

Does anyone know if there is a pending release of 6.3.x or is the move to 6.5 now ?

Currently looking for a fix to the well know various artist / compilation listing issue that is part of 6.3.1

Thanks,

Andrew.

There haven't been significant updates to the 6.3.x branch since the
release of 6.3.1. Developpment definitely goes towards 6.5 (needed for the
Transporter launch in September).

Given that it's a cosmetic issue with a known workaround (tagging your
tracks properly with the compilation tag), I highly doubt that any work
on that issue would be targeted at a point release on the 6.3 branch.

Think of having a TV with 700 channels that you have to wade through every time to find the 10 you want to watch, not really just a cosmetic issue. Also there seems to be a large number of people who no matter how they tag there wma files still cant sort it out.

There is no more development work going on with 6.3.x. That pretty much says it all. 6.5 recently had a major rework of the various artists issues and should solve the problems users are seeing with 6.3.x. If you wish to give it a try, it is available as a nightly download, and will soon be available as a "stable pre-release" build as well. You can also wait for release and hope that it fixes the issue for your specific case.

Thanks, I am running SlimServer on a QNAP device, so will have to wait for an official release to be ported over.
