View Full Version : SlimServer 6.5 and Nokia 770

I have ordered a Nokia 770 and it should be arriving in the next day or so.

I have been browsing the forums and know that the Nokia needs SS 6.5 in order to be able to use the 'skin' that has been developed. I've also seen that there have been a few problems with the development releases of SS 6.5.

My question is, is the most recent 6.5 release stable(ish), or should I leave it alone for a little while? (Apologies if this is mentioned elsewhere - I've searched, but couldn't find it).

Thanks.

G

I've been using 6.5 for about 2 weeks now, having purchased a 770. All seems fine for me on a Mac Mini running OS X - no real issues that stand out and, given I rely on a Squeezebox for my weekday alarm for work, I needed it to run pretty smoothly!

There were several weeks there where 6.5 was not stable, but I think we're now coming out of that status. I have an updated subversion checkout and it is doing a decent job. One thing I'm having trouble with is when I select music through "Browse Music Folder" rather than "Browse Artists/Albums/Genres", it doesn't play. I consider that a minor annoyance compared to the state it was in a few weeks ago.

The database changes that went in that introduced the instability (they were good changes, just took a bit to get the kinks cleared up) required some changes to the skin, particularly in the formatting of URLs. I believe I have fixed everything, but let me know if anything is amiss.

Also at the moment it doesn't scan your library unless you run the scanner in a command shell, and if you browse music folder whilst scanning you get multiple copies of the same album in your database.

So unless you want to test and can put up with the 'issues' I'd wait a few more days.

I would concur with that, running on XP and the latest nightly is still messing up the scanning big time.

It does seem much quicker and more responsive so hopefully the remaining kinks will be ironed out shortly.

Been away from the trunk until the last few days -- just curious if you are currently able to browse artwork?? I get a text listing on the Nokia?

Nice catch-- yep, broken. I'll take a look at it later today.

Working on a fix for browse-by-artwork. Opened a thread in the developers forum discussing it:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25066

Digest:
I've mostly fixed the traditional browse-by-artwork, although it isn't sorting like it should be.

The "1-by-1" artwork browse feature from the home page is crashing slimserver.

Will continue to work towards a fix.

sorting is an ongoing issue, and may take a while. 6.5 is unstable,
and will probably remain so for at least a while longer. At least
with 6.3.0 released, there will be more time to focus on 6.5 after the
dust of the release settles.

as always, spot on and thanks KDF (and for your help on the dev thread).

all-- artwork browsing should work for both styles of browsing again (checked in fixes Wed afternoon). sorting will wait until after the dust settles a bit on 6.5. Like KDF, I'm happy to see 6.3 released so focus can shift to 6.5 fixes.
