1) my 1 year premium sub to musicmagicmixer expired - am i right in thinking
all necessary functionality for slimserver is now free?

2) i'm running it as a service (using the music ip method rather than
'apptoservice'). It seems to work well but isn't picking up new music.
I've run the app, saved cache, and rescanned slimserver but still don't have
my new music mixable. How do i get new music in?

I think you still need to purchase a subscription to MusicIP. Perhaps that's whay MIP is no longer analyising your new music (?)

It seems to be analysing it (it picked up 200 odd new songs and analysed
them when i ran the application) but they're not showing up as mm in
slimserver.

I can still make mixes in either slim or the application as well.

I suppose i'm still not really clear what library information is being
used. I don't know where MusicIP stores its library and i don't know where
slimserver picks up its data from when i hit 'scan'.

I notice that neither use itunes nor 'don't use itunes' is selected. Is it
possible to use itunes and musicIP?

Simon,

My understanding was that the MusicIP premium licence was not time limited, but I've only had mine for 6 months so may be mistaken.

You indicate that you can generate mixes from the slim interface so the MusicIP API must be operating OK, and this is only available if you have either a trial or full key.

In SS there is a server setting in the MusicMagic section which specifies the amount of time between reloads of the MM database information. If it's set to zero the reload is disabled.

Check this setting and that SS is set to use MM on the first page of server settings (at the bottom).

The current version of MusicIP does NOT have to have the premium licence key to allow you to use the API - which is what slimserver uses to generate mixes etc. There is still a premium version, but it gives you sundry other features (like more control over the kind of mixing you do). Note that the 30 day trial key is no longer available - said to be no longer necessary since the API bit is now free.

I seem to have it all working now but i'm not entirely sure how. Part of
the confusion arose from me starting with a musicmagic mixer 12month
licence, moving to musicIP and then having the licence expire.

The trick is to have the MusicIP API running BEFORE SlimServer starts. If the API is not running when SlimServer starts then the MusicIP options do not appear.
Easy to fix: with the MusicIP API running, just stop the SlimServer service and restart it.
