View Full Version : Turning off the VU to display a message?

I am the author of "YAC2Slim" http://www.savardsoftware.com/yac2slim/

This program takes caller ID information from YAC and displays it on the
Slimp3/Squeezebox.

I have had a user report that the software does not turn off the analog
VU display of the Squeezebox 2 when it displays Caller ID information.
Instead the caller ID info is displayed on top of the analog VU. I
don't have access to a Squeezebox 2 so I can't test it.

What will I need to do to turn off this VU display before showing Caller
ID information? My software talks to the Slim server using the command
line interface. It issues a "display" command to show the Caller ID
information.

I searched through the technical help of the latest version of the Slim
server software but found no command line options for controlling the VU
or other screen saver.

Thanks in advance,
Rod

Not sure how much help I can be since I haven't attempted to try to write a plugin yet, but..

There's a plugin called Weblogger that puts info on the screen, clearing whatever screensaver you have running telling it has submitted successfully...it appears to clear both lines for a few seconds, maybe this will help?

One way would be to 'push' a new mode onto the player with your display
info, then 'pop' it off when done.
That should override the screensaver.
Have a look in Slim/Buttons/Common.pm for the pushMode command. It is
used quite frequently in plugins.

I haven't actually written a plugin.. just a separate EXE that
communicates with the Slim server software using its command-line
interface. Is there a way to change modes using the command line?

BTW, I love Yac2slim! Sorry I can't help though.

Ah, I don't think it is currently possible from the CLI.
