Just installed 6.5 on FC5 x86_64. Replaced DBD::SqlLite with the one from
CPAN and got SlimServer running. Now, when I fire-up any web interface, it
dies. Any ideas?

not without details from the console window or the log.

Was trying to find the log - where is it?

/var/log/slimserver/slimserver.log

(at least that's where it is with the deb package)

On FC5 from the tar ball:

# ls -l /var/log/slim*
ls: /var/log/slim*: No such file or directory
#

Anybody know where the log is?

its usually in /tmp
Not a great place for it, we know.
There is a startup parameter that tells it where to
place the log.

Ok, here's what I get:

directory

The RPM defaults to /tmp/slimserver.log, but if all you have done is
install the tarball then there is nothing else setup on your system.

try ./slimserver.pl --logfile /path/to/slimserver.log

the .Deb package uses /var/log/slimserver.log

So, this is what is in the log when I open a web interface:

# tail -f /tmp/slimserver.log
DBD::SQLite::db do failed: attempt to write a readonly database(1) at
dbdimp.c line 398 at /usr/local/slimserver/Slim/DataStores/DBI/DataModel.pm
line 317.
END failed--call queue aborted.

What's the issue?

Your database is not writeable for some reason: are you running slimserver as its own user (highly recommended and the default I think)?

If so, make sure it can write to places it needs to write... The sqllite file and the preferences file:

Assuming the user is 'slimserv':

chown slimserv /etc/slimserver.conf

I have no idea where your sql file is, though, been a while since I used it. You should make it (and the directory it is in) writeable by the right user.

Entirely possible, but I need specifics. Does anyone have any?

Come on. If this is a permissions issue, someone knows what's going on.
I've installed 6.5 before and not had this issue. Anyone one? Bueller?

I've only installed 6.5 as either the .deb or run as 'me' from my own shell. (not with a script, just ./slimserver.pl in a screen session so I could play with it.)

Did you install from an RPM or the tarball?

How are you starting the server?

I first installed from the RPM, then deleted the install and installed from the tar ball. It's generally running automatically from init.d, but I've also run it using ./slimserver, as root.
