View Full Version : Most recent 6.2.2 build won't play individual FLACs...

I have a library that contains a mix of CUE/FLACs, just plain individual FLACs, and MP3s. 6.2.1 wasn't happy with this mix, and gave me lots of trouble. 6.2.2 had been fine, but sometime in the last week, it seems to have lost the ability, once again, to play individual FLAC files.

All my CUE/FLACs seem to work (haven't tested them all, but five of them work), and NONE of my individual FLAC files work. My individual MP3s work fine. All I get from the logfile is:

2006-04-24 12:53:35.3712 ERROR: Couldn't open song.

2006-04-24 12:53:35.3959 ERROR: Couldn't gotoNext, stopping

This is Debian Linux, running the build from the 24th. It's not permissions. I think it's related to the scanning code.

If I do a scan with the most recent build, I note that my FLAC files tagged with "The Complete Hits Collection 1973-1997 [Disc 1]" come out as just Disc 1 (through 4.) No individual FLAC files play.

If I then replace the most recent build with a build from a couple of days ago, before rescanning, no individual FLAC files play. If I then do a full rescan with the few-days-old version, the files play fine.

If I then return to the binaries from last night, the files also play fine. As soon as I do a scan with the new version, it blows up again.

Something is definitely amiss in the scanner code.

BTW, the files that work are mostly dated April 17. The files that break are dated April 24.

Yep, I have got that problem to with the latest 6.2.2 and Flac's files - see here.

http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=23276

SlimServer correctly shows the Flac files Song title but has "No Artist" listed. Like you, my MP3's play fine.

Have done several "clear library and Rescans" but all the player gives me is a "Can't open file for" error when I try to play Flac.

Good to see I am not imagining it!

The 4/17 release works fine, so you can fall back to that if you need to.

Yep, was trying to sort out some issues with getting server to go into standby and I think that wasn't fixed until after 04/17.

Dan checked in a fix for this this morning, look for it in the next
nightly build.

Dean, is it the scanner fix, or the standby fix, that's in tomorrow's drop?

I think it's the scanner fix (?), I had the standby thing going successfully with 6.2.2 on the weekend.

Ok, last night's drop is better. But there are two problems (at least) remaining:

1. Most of my playlists start playing with the LAST song, instead of the FIRST. But not all of them do, and I don't see what the difference is. It appears to happen with all three versions of 6.2.2 I have... from January, last week, and last night. (I didn't test with the two-nights-ago version).

2. Individual FLAC files play, but there's at least one problem left in the scanning code for CUE files. For instance, my Dead Can Dance CUEs come out wrong. Interestingly, both the 4/17 version and one from January do this too, and I didn't notice it. I ripped these CDs in late November, and they worked then, so sometime in the last few months, the parsing code changed.

The incorrect parsing comes out:

All Songs Play Add to playlist
1. 1981-1998 (Disc 1) from 1981-1998 (Disc 1) by Dead Can Dance Play Add to playlist
2. 1981-1998 (Disc 1) from 1981-1998 (Disc 1) by Dead Can Dance Play Add to playlist

Note: completely rebuilding my playlists seems to have fixed them, at least for now.

I'm glad I'm not the only one having this issue. I can't get ANY of my flac files to play. All of my wma files play fine. I downloaded the 4/24 build so that I could get the wake-on-lan going. I was so excited to finally have that sorted out and then I realized my flac files wouldn't play!

I hope this can be fixed in the 4/25 build! [fingers crossed]

OK, what's the verdict.

Is the Power Standby and Flac issues fixed with the latest 6.2.2?

I downloaded the 4/25 nightly build yesterday afternoon (shortly before the 6.2.2 RC was announced, hopefully they're the same). After downloading the 4/25 nightly AND DOING A CLEAR & RESCAN of the library (didn't work before the rescan) my FLAC files started playing again. The newly arrived WOL functionality is working great. So it looks like with 6.2.2 all of my careabouts are met.
