View Full Version : SlimServer 5.0 RPM

Hello all,

Firstly - CONGRATS to all the developers and everyone at Slim Devices on the
new badass product! May this make your Christmas season a happy one indeed!

I need to make light of a minor issue regarding the RPM of the new 5.0
software, though. For users upgrading their RPMs from prior versions, the
package name has changed, as has the main installation directory. No
deprication flags were added to the spec file, though, so upgrading to the
new version does NOT replace the older version of the software when
installed with the -U flags. Because of this, the old version keeps on
running and you will not see the new version until the old one is
uninstalled and the service is started by hand.

To fix this, an "Obsoletes: SliMP3" line must be added to the .spec file
preamble.

Regards,

Hey,

Sorry to reply to myself, but thought this might be useful to someone:

The server's user and gruop names have also changed with this RPM. So, if you find yourself unable to save a playlist, check your error log for entries like:

2003-11-18 12:46:33 Could not open /mp3/+Playlists/__00_04_20_04_10_93.m3u for writing.
2003-11-18 13:19:59 Could not open /mp3/+Playlists/__history.m3u for writing.

You should go back and delete or chown slimserver:slimserver these files. Also, check the permissions on your playlist directory to make sure the new user can write to it.

DV

I'd love a patch to fix all this.

Anybody?

Dean,

I'd be happy to patch this up. Where do I pull the latest CVS source
from though? Is sourceforge still the place or are you hosting it in house?

I can also contribute to the spec file once CVS is open again.

Victor: CVS is at: http://cvs.slimdevices.com/~cvs
See also: http://www.slimdevices.com/dev_resources.html
Sean indicated that the anonymous account would be up again in a day or two. Last I checked the spec file lived in a misc dir in the server tree.

This should move to the developers list.

We'll be setting up anonymous CVS access as soon as possible.

In the mean time, nightly updates are available here:
