This is what I have found. If you use the sb3 to search playlists it seems to use a URL such as http://www.shoutcast.com/sbin/tunin-stationpls?id=3499&filename=playlist.pls.

About two days ago this stopped working on the squeezebox. It won't play most stations. If I un plug the sb3 and plug back in, it works better, but a few hours later - nothing. I can't use a station as an alarm because I don't know if it will work or not. But If I connect to slimserver via web browser amd click on a shoutcast station it plays fine. What I noticed is then when you do it this way it uses am ip address instead of a url, like this: http://207.200.96.227:8038, which works fine.

I immediatly thought this was a DNS issue and switched to several DNS servers - No luck.

I tried playing directly from Winamp - No luck.

I tried playing at work on our 100 megabit internet connection - no luck.

So I can't be the only one having this problem can I? It used to work great - I mainy got this for internet radio, and I have not been able to use shoutcast for two days.

Hurmph!

Shoutcast seems to be experiencing some server troubles:

It's not on "our" end.

A new Shoutcast plugin is now in trunk, it will be in tonight's nightly 6.5 build.

I fear you'll have to remove Shoutcast from 6.2.x :-(

Yes. We're trying to get a 6.2.2 final out the door in the next day
or so, but it will have to go without Shoutcast.

We will start a 6.2.3 nightly build that will include the updated
plugin and will try to get that released as soon as possible after.

Oh please guys!!
Why is it necessary to "push out" the 6.2.2 final without ShoutCast?? Doesn't this go against the idea of a bug free fully working, stable release?
Slimserver without the ShoutCast function is not "as billed" in the features list, is it?
Would it be possible to release a plugin that fixes the problem for existing users?

Actually the old plugin is working again as of this morning. As you can see we're at the mercy of the Shoutcast admins. It just happens to be terrible timing with the 6.2.2 release. 6.2.2 will ship with the old plugin, and 6.3 will have the new one. SN will be updated with the new plugin shortly as well.

so what is the position with Shoutcast now?

The service seems to work on my set up.. but the menus and number of stations available have been reduced significantly.. inifact I also see a difference between the menus on SB3 vs SN .. it seems that you can no longer browse by all streams on SN...

any reasons for these changes... and what is the outlook for the future ?

It's been mentioned before (right in this thread): Shoutcast.com changed
the station list format without prior announcement. Thus the "old"
shoutcast plugin doesn't work any more. Andy is working on a new plugin
(already available in the 6.5 trunk).

AOL as the Shoutcast owner might know...

Right, there's no 'All Streams' anymore, but would you even want it? Just taking a rough guess here, there are maybe something like 30000 streams if we were to combine all genre files together. The new plugin has By Genre, Top 500, Random 100, and search support. Search is not on SN yet though.

Hi Andy - Just upgraded SS 6.2.2 to 6.5 (at work) and am using Softqueeze 2.3 to navigate... I do not see any search functionality within Softsqueeze when browsing shoutcast streams or rather I am not sure how you mean it to work ... should I see this using softsqueeze or is that a matter reserved only for SB3..

I note your comments regarding the total number of streams etc.. However in the past i would browse 'All streams' and type in the name of the station I was looking for in order to fast track to it... it looks like I will now have to do this on a genre basis.. is that correct?

If so then it seems that there are a number of additional menus to navigate before getting to the station that you want... for instance if I were looking for 'Lounge radio' the current set up requires that I :

browse by Genre
scroll to Ambient
then scroll to Lounge Radio

as opposed to

Browse All streams
type 'Lounge ..' scroll then select the station

So in a certain sense I can still see a reason to have all streams as a menu to select...

end of the day I just want to get a greasp of hwo it is now being structured

But for what it is worth I think both SS and SB3 are fantastic products!! ;-)

Search is only in the web interface for now. I will be adding it to the player interface soon. I don't see any solution for getting all streams in a single menu, there are just too many. Top 500 is probably the closest to what you are looking for.

andy

It would be nice to have the "Most Popular" category back, maybe limit it to 50-100 stations. That always made it easy to find something new without going through so many selections.

Top 500 is the same as Most Popular.
