In case it hasn't been discussed, I found a problem installing Slimserver to a Windows machine when connecting via Remote Desktop Connection or Terminal Services. The install seemed successful until attempting to start Slimserver. I would see the tray icon blinking indefinitely with "Starting Slimserver" over it. I reinstalled using VNC, and it worked fine.

I think it's not an issue with RDC or TS, but with slimserver sometimes
needing two attempts to be successfully installed. This behaviour (less
the TS) has been reported more than once :-/.

You put the TS in install mode before starting the install?

Also, I've found some install packages simply don't like being installed in a terminal session and require a console session (probably because of the way the registry is written during the install in a TS, which can be different than in a console session).

FWIW I've been managing dozens of servers remotely, using the remote
desktop (they are four floors under my office). I _never_ encountered a
problem installing whatever due to the fact that I wasn't sitting in front
of the machine.

"mstsc.exe /console" and you can do a console based install remotely.

One thing I have seen is having to run the application for the first time with administrator privelidges to "setup" the registry correctly.
