I recently undertook to move my current slimserver setup from an old PII to a new AMD64/semron SUSE 10 system. I'm not at my home/desk right now - but I got error messages - which I solved by modifying the affected perl module to <module-name>.unused. I assume that forced it to pick up the 64 bit version of the perl module. I'm also getting an error message in regards to Zlib - though the slimserver did come up and seems to be working. Not sure what effect this warning message will have on operations. Also, I'm wondering if there are other perl modules that are not going to work because they are not 64 bit compatible - and I won't find out until I try certain operations.

Anybody else out there using SUSE 10 on an AMD 64 bit based system? I am running the x86_64 version of linux (ie. 64 bit).

Thanks,

Kevin

Maybe that warning said that you should run Bin/build-perl-modules.pl?
Just do it: it will compile the missing modules for your architecture.

Here is more info on the 64 bit issues I've seen...

Here is the error:

slimserver start
Starting SlimServer: Had to create DBI::_dbistate unexpectedly at /usr/lib64/perl5/5.8.6/x86_64-linux-thread-multi/DynaLoader.pm line 253.

Here is the "workaround"

Is there a more elegant solution to this problem?

Thanks,

Kevin

Here is the error message:

The following modules failed to load: Compress::Zlib

To download and compile them please run...

Is the build-perl-modules.pl smart enough to know about 64 bit-ness?

Thanks,

Kevin

It doesn't care. It will just use your perl installation to build to the
native architecture. Make sure that you have libz-dev and expat-dev (or
whatever the appropriate package is) installed.
