I just discovered what appears to be Rendezvous support in the latest
version of the SliMP3 server software. I run my SliMP3 server on Linux
and I'd like to see if I can get iTunes on my Powerbook to access my
MP3 using Rendezvous. Has anyone done this yet?

Not yet. However, check out the writeup I did on this at
http://bitshift.org/zeroconf.shtml

Interesting stuff. I found the Howl project
(http://www.swampwolf.com/products/) which is an implementation of
zeroconf for Windows and Linux/FreeBSD. It's apparently open source.

So is the SliMP3 server software's Rendezvous capability only good if
you're running it on OS X or have 3rd party zeroconf/Rendezvous
software installed?

The SLIMP3 software supports Rendezvous advertising of the web
interface on Linux and Mac OS X. What it doesn't support (yet) is
iTunes Music Sharing, but we hope to add this soon.

I don't see the SliMP3 software in Safari's Rendezvous menu on my
Powerbook. Should I?

You should if the server's running on OSX or one of the supported
flavors of Unix (i386-freebsd, i386-linux, i386-openbsd).

Hmm. I don't see it. I've restarted the slimp3 server and still
nothing. I've got a "Rendezvous Name" entered in the network section of
the server settings. My server is running SuSE 8.2 and the tar.gz
version of the slimp3 server. Any troubleshooting hints?

From a command prompt, try typing:

perl -V

and post the results. This will include the architecture of your
system.
