Hello, I have a sb2 and sb3. My server is ubuntu linux 5.1. I'm trying to get apple lossless files to play.

I followed the directions in the FAQ (I think), but it won't play the files.

I installed faad and flac on my box. I changed convert.conf like this:

## you can comment this out if you want to use LAME to transcode AAC/MOV files to MP3.
#mov aif * *
# [mov123] $FILE$

mov wav squeezebox *
[faad] -w -f 2 $FILE$

mov wav squeezebox2 *
[faad] -w -f 2 $FILE$

Then I restarted the slim server.

Unfortunately, the apple lossless files still won't play. Is there something I missed?

Thanks
Jay

Try the ALAC code instead of FAAD.

There are issues with FAAD:

Thank you for your reply. I have good news and bad news.

I installed alac and after a few guesses at what to put in convert.conf got it working with lots of dropouts. I figured that was because I was sending a WAV file on the wireless network.

So I tried to make it convert to flac before sending. I changed convert.conf like this:

mov flc squeezebox *
[alac] $FILE$ | [flac] -cs --totally-silent --compression-level-0 -

mov flc squeezebox2 *
[alac] $FILE$ | [flac] -cs --totally-silent --compression-level-0 -

This doesn't seem to work. But if I do this on the command line of my server:

alac file.m4a | flac -cs --totally-silent --compression-level-0 - > file.flac

file.flac will play fine on my squeezebox.

Can you tell me what I did wrong with my convert.conf file?

Thanks
Jay

I turned on some debugging on the server.

It looks like the software isn't ever looking for a mov-flc converter. It looks for mov-wav and mov-mp3 but not mov-flc.

Is there a different setting I need to use to tell it that I want it to convert apple lossless to flac before sending it to the squeezebox?

Thanks
Jay
