View Full Version : Duplicate Artists

I'm using the SB3 with SlimServer 6.2.2 22Feb06 version and linked to my iTunes base. When browsing by artist, I see duplications e.g. Abba twice and apparently have 195 artists instead of about 150 in reality.

Have deleted and rebuilt the index in Cache. Have completely rescanned the iTunes files. Have checked and rechecked the tag files to remove additional fields e.g. composer.

All was well 2 weeks ago but once again the listing is out of whack and I haven't added any more recordings. The secondary listing generally contains only 1 track from an album shown in the first instance.

I am getting a little tired of all this fiddling around. Any idea what is going on here?

I experienced something very similar when I was using WMP to tag my files. Even though the artist tag looks the same in one piece of software, it is (not sure if this is actually, or just perceived by Slimserver) seen as two different artists.

The fact that it seems to be fine, then gets bad again may be because of the ITunes database refresh if you are using ITunes to tag your files.

I would suggest downloading a third party tagging program. I use Tag & Rename which has a free 30 day trial, but some people find it overly complicated. Select the album that is giving your trouble and force a retag of the artist field for all of the songs in the album. Not just the song that is giving you trouble.

Then select clear and rescan library in Slimserver. That should sort the problem out. Let us know if not.

are you using the LazySearch plugin
(http://hickinbottom.demon.co.uk/development/slimserver-development/lazy-search/)?
It had a problem with 6.1/6.2 and would cause duplicates when you used
browse music folder. This was fixed in the 6.5 branch only.

FWIW, I use Lazy Search on 6.2.1 and just avoid browsing music folder.

Yes, I am using Lazy Search plug in. Not sure why this would corrupt the SlimServer browse artists list but I'm prepared to believe it. Now all I have to do is wait for 6.5 to become official ...

Thanks

If you really want to know there was a lot of discussion on the developer
list. In the meantime, just rebuild your database and don't use Browse
Music Folder :)
