View Full Version : threads are really messed up

I've mentioned this recently, and added my info to bug 2712 (against lists.slimdevices.com).

That bug is still in "NEW" state, and the problem with reading messages on these lists is getting worse. Can't something be done? Even a response to say that Slim Devices are aware of the problem and are looking into it? Perhaps make the forums read-only until the problem is fixed?

Whilst I can just about cope with people not posting replies to messages and instead creating new threads (annoying though it is!), I'm not coping very well with posts getting associated with the wrong threads.

I was just reading through a thread and found 5 out of 6 messages where completely irrelevant to the initial post. I was just going to ignore the thread when I stumbled across a message that I was interested in that had nothing to do with that thread.

To recap, the problem is that message id's for posts generated from the forum are not unique.

I'll try and take a look at this soon.

Ok - hopefully with this message, the Message-ID will be more unique.

Gee Dan, I thought you were a techie.
Only marketoids use phases like "more unique"

Its like "slightly pregnant"

IDs are unique or not. Actually, anything that is unique is
that, no gradations.

But back to your regularly scheduled forums and email.

Or are the forums so popular that we're running into
the birthday paradox?

Yes, yes. Not only am I dealing with editing php forum code (*gag*), I'm at
my girlfriend's parents house in LA LA land.

The IDs are now unique.

I do hope someone can have a look at this. It's not the end of the world
or anything, but it sure does make keeping up with the lists via email a
lot harder (and more confusing at times). And it used to work perfectly!

I've taken to turning off threading and just sorting by subject for my
Slim mail, though even then I find that the subject line formats defeat
this. E.g., you'll see:

[Developers] Some subject
Re: [Developers] Some subject
[Developers] Re: Some subject

and they all sort differently. Foo.

Looks like there may still be a problem.

I can see a message from "Eserim.23gwwb1140338101 (AT) no-mx (DOT) forums.slimdevices.com" (the message id is the same) with a subject of "[slim] white Noise - WANTED". This is followed 8 mins later with a reply that is from the same person with the same message id.
