View Full Version : Slimserver and purchased (m4p) iTunes tracks?

hi,

What's the situation (not being a SlimServer/SB owner yet) with being able to play tracks bought with iTunes - stored as .m4p files?

Will SlimServer play these (the coder part of me thinks not) and if not is the only workaround to burn these to an MP3 CD and copy them back off again? (ugly)

I don't want to be prevented from playing music I've paid for on my SB... and a burn and re-rip/copy scenario ain't looking too attractive :(

If there's no solution due to proprietary Apple DRM then it looks like my only choice will be an Apple Airport Express with AirTunes surely? I'd love to have an SB3 instead though :(

Thanks in advance.

AFAIK that's a no (until Apple licenses FairPlay)

You could just strip the DRM. hymn / jhymn reportedly work well for
this, though at this time only for tracks purchased with iTunes <=
5.0.1. (Be careful - once an account has purchased a song with version
6 it won't accept purchases through 5 anymore.)

Which is exactly why vendor lock in and DRM are bad. Just buy CDs from now on :)
