That does work for browsing albums, but, somehow not on the New Music list... at least not on my software revision. (SB1.5, Slimserver 6.2.1)

well, if it is important, then try 6.2.2
Is this something known to have been broken in the 6.2.1 release? If I'm reading the bug reports correctly, it looks like this was added back before 6.1, and I can't find any bugs saying it stopped working.

irrelevant anyway. If it is a problem with 6.2.1 (and I really can't
be bothered looking it up) 6.2.2 would have to be tried anyway so
looking up would be wasted time. if it is a setup problem, then 6.2.2
still needs to be tried.

It's working fine for me in 6.2.1.

EDIT: Correction - it works on the web interface, not on the SB itself.

and in 6.5 player UI as of about 6 wks ago. not considered critical
enough to go into 6.2.2 at the time.

Ah an upgrade to 6.5 2/14/2006 displays the Album/Yeah/Artist correctly. Now, can I rearrange that so it says Artist/Album/Year?

at this time, you cannot.

A (slightly) related question ... is new music keyed off the file mod date,
or does Slim remember when it was added to the library?

Am asking because tag changes to existing songs seem to send the album to
the top of the list for me. But I do tend to clear the database and rescan a
lot.

thx.

Hm seemingly not. Nevermind, a dirty hack gives me what I need:

Slim/Buttons/BrowseDB.pm line 496 roughly

if (scalar @artists) {
@name = ();
push @name, sprintf('%s %s', join('', @artists, " - "));
push @name,&{$levelInfo->{'resultToName'}}($item);
}

File time.

It uses the file's last modified date/time. Because of the way it works, it may be valuable to have a program that can set the last modified time of files. I have one that's a Windows Explorer extension that I sometimes use after editing tags. Some programs automatically preserve the modified time. I think metaflac does this, and IIRC flac.exe also stamps the same modified date/time on flac files as the original WAV.

One (welcome) quirk of the NAS and tagging program I use is that when I edit tags in files stored on the NAS, the last modified time doesn't change, so I don't have to bother resetting them.

Thx ... I do have an option to preserve in my tagger, but that will mess up
file sync to the server (assuming the file size does not change - which it
won't if it's a FLAC). Can't think of a solution, but no big deal.

Thx anyway.
