Hi Guys,

I've finally put up an update (the last one most likely) to the Videobox
package on Sourceforge.

http://videobox.sourceforge.net/

See the notes below for the details.

I've stopped using it myself and switched to MythTV on Linux for my
HTServer setup, so I've kind of lost the urge to refine it. I guess it's
more or less an orphan. If anyone would like to adopt, just let me know.

I've made some stuff to control MythTV or other Lirc controlled software
from my Squeezeboxes (of course) and if there's enough interest I'll
document it and upload the Plugin and Lirc Junction Box that I wrote for
that. Not as ambitous a project as VB, but it works very well..

Best regards,
Peter

Release 0.6.2
--------------
- Made compatibility fixes to make VB work with SlimServer 6.2.0
- Rough picture viewing added (just add a picture directory to the
playlist)

Remaining bugs:
- Picture viewer window should alternate with video window, but this
causes
problems, never got 'round to fixing that.
- Pin code protection on directories doesn't work as it should.
- Can't play wmv files for some reason.

I'm interested in the MythTV plugin. Would you recommend that to a newbie HTServer user over Videobox? I'm currently using a Win2k server for FLAC only, but would switch to Linux in a heartbeat for a nice video solution. I'll try to do some searching on MythTV before asking any more stupid q's. TIA.

Hi Skunk,

I'm afraid not. It was quite hairy to get my setup working correctly. My
motherboard, capture card combination gave me big problems that took the
ivtv driver writer some effort to get fixed. IMHO it's not for Linux
beginners yet. Videobox is a lot easier that way, but of course, it
doesn't do recordings, which is the great thing about MythTV.

Regards,
Peter

please do! I've recently set up myth as well, and would love to add
various controls to it.

Can someone track down and fix the bug in Videobox that prevents it from playing .wmv files? I'd be willing to cough up some cash (within reason, natch) to get this bug fixed.

I would also be interested in the MythTV control stuff. I have a Knoppmyth install, but am struggling with LIRC (don't have much of a clue about linux, and haven't had time to go through it as yet) but would be interested in using the SB as there will be one next to each of my Myth frontends when i get it all sorted out :)

I'm afraid it's more of a bug in Windows Media Player or perhaps even in
the ActiveX control.

Videobox basically just does this:

$wmplayer = Wx::ActiveX::WMPlayer->new( $this , -1 , wxDefaultPosition
, wxDefaultSize );
$wmplayer->PropSet("FileName","/movie.mpg") ;
$wmplayer->Play;

That works for .mpg, .mp3, .avi, etc.

Not much to fix there, me thinks.
