Well, I think the NYT mention is working :)

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/new-for-you/movers-and-shakers/-/electronics/104-1758803-5493530

This page changes on an hourly basis, but it's currently showing the SB3 as Amazon's no 2 "Mover and Shaker", rising from position 1340 in the sales rank yesterday to 142 today.

The change is also due in part to the fact that Amazon used to say the SB3 shipped in "1 to 2 months". I can't imagine anyone would have ordered from them given that timetable. It was ranked something like #30,000 then.

I still can't see why people would order it from Amazon. What's the value add? Do they even get the 30 day money back guarantee?

Some non-techies are more comfortable ordering from Amazon than manufacturer-direct. Also people get gift cards, amazon promos, and such.

Yeah, when I wanted an SB3 for Christmas, it was much easier to tell my non-techie relatives to get me Amazon gift cards then to send them to Slim Devices. I was genuinely afraid of ending up with some weird diet gizmo....

Here in the UK the quality of Amazon's after sales service is second to none. My daughter's Creative Zen Micro developed a fault eight months after buying it from Amazon. I emailed them asking how to get it repaired and within half an hour they emailed back saying they would give a full refund! Naturally, I ordered a replacement Zen Micro for her... from Amazon.

And check out those Amazon reviews! Everybody gave the SB3 5 stars!

Folks buying it from Amazon are going to be sending it back and bad-mouthing it if it doesn't connect up right out of the box! So I guess a new SlimServer version release is imminent?

Interesting to note that the white, wired model is incredibly unpopular.

Wireless black - #105
Wireless white - #1,757
Wired black - #5,260
Wired white - #73,048 and down 1,000+ from yesterday
