I am a new user of Slim Devices, and I love the product. I plan to buy a couple more for my home.

I would like to use the Telcanto software but I can't seem to get it to connect.
I dropped back to a IE browser and used http://10.0.1.5:9000/Handheld/ (10.0.1.5 is address of server)and recieved page not found.
The server is a Windows/XP Media Center system.
Maybe some app like MCE is using port 9000? I re-installed Slim Server and no help.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

What about Windows' firewall? Did you follow
http://www.slimdevices.com/su_faq.html#networking-firewall ?

First check that you can access slimserver through the browser on your PC, using the same address. That will verify that slimserver is running, the IP address and the port number.

If that works check that your PDA has a good route to the netwrok by browsing to something else (on the internet for example).

If that works, but you still can't get to the slimserver, then look at firewall settings - perhaps your server is rejecting requests from the IP address of your PDA.

Thanks for the replies.
I do not have a firewall on this system. I turned off the MSFT one and don't have any other software installed othan Slimserver.
I wasn't clear in my post. The IE Browser I use is on the same system. If I run the slimserver app directly it uses the Local host URL and works fine.
If I use the IP address of the system (I varified it to be correct with IPconfig comand) and port number 9000 it doesn't find the server.
I varified in the slim server config that is is using port 9000.

any other thoughts?

Has anyone run Slimserver on an MCE machine?

any other thoughts? It seems unlikely since this is a fresh install, but just to be sure try the following.

Go to the WebUI, you said that you can get to it from the machine running Slimserver with http://localhost:9000. Then select "Server Settings" in the left frame. Then Select the "Security" Tab. About half way down you will see a section labeled "BLOCK INCOMING CONNECTIONS" make sure this is set to "Do Not Block". If it is set to block, by default Slimserver only accepts connections from the localhost.

If that isn't the problem, don't worry, we'll get to the bottom of it.

Tom,

thanks a million for your help. I found another device in my house complained about having a duplicate IP address with another device on the network.
I reset the PDA, restarted IE browser and was able to connect to SlimServer!!!!!

What a cool product!!

jim

Now on to get
Telcanto to connect.
