I am new to this devices having bought it a few days ago. I am using IPOD and ITUNES on windows XP and all the songs from itunes imorted in slimserver and can be played except songs with chinese titles. I have tried both 6.2.1 as well as 6.5. No help.

ITunes is the latest version and my song directort is in d:\My Music

Any assistance would be appreciated. Cheers, Pete

Try changing song file names to English only.
I do not use Chinese, but also have problems importing songs with
non-English chars in file names.
You should be able to keep Chinese titles in song tags, however.
Hope this helps.

Tried renaming the files to english name and it did not work either. However, I went in to the properties of the file and change the title from chinese to english and it worked. However, this would also mean that I would lose my ID3 Tag.

I do hope that slimdevices would start putting together a Chinese language support for the slimserver as well as the squeeze box.

I am not going to change my mp3 files as I would lose info.

Thanks.

Pete

Can you please send one of the files with Chinese ID3 tags to dan | at |
slimdevices.com ?

This should work - we have a bunch of test files that do.

The thing that may not work is if the files have an old version of the ID3
tag that is craming Big5 or similar encoding into what is only an ISO-8859-1
space. Our Unicode code tries to guess, but it can only guess so well with
overlapping character sets unless the encoding is explicitly specified as in
ID3v2.4

Hi Dan,

Can you confirm that foreign chars in file names are not suported?
Or is there a way to make Slimserver to import the files?

Thanks,

Non-Latin characters in file names are supported if your Windows instance is
using another language entirely - such as Japanese. We've had reports of that
working. However, having non-latin file names in a latin (English, French,
etc) Windows doesn't work.

This is not an issue on OS X or Unix/Linux platforms.

I seem to have the same issue. My collection of recently ripped Chinese music does not get imported during a scan. It was ripped using WMP and the directory and song names are in Chinese.
I tried renaming some song DIRECTORY and FILENAMES to English and they were imported and showed up with Chinese song names (due to the tags).

But that wasn't a practical solution for my whole collection. I hope SLIM can fix this soon. It was a bummer for my Chinese New Year party not to be able to show off my Squeezebox 3.

Unfortunately it's a bit out of our control.

I had the same problem.

Way to solve it is to go to tag&rename website - could not remember exact address but google search should yield it.

Download the 30 days trial and use it to convert the tag to id3 and it should be ok.

Cheers, Pete
