Hello,
I'm using SlimServer Version: 6.2.2 - 5724 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252
With unicode chars "Cyberbit", "CODE2000", "Arial Unicode" loaded in Graphic folder, installed as fonts in windows XP (sp2) with Supplementary Languages support enabled.

I have some issue with special characters in filenames/ID3 of my mp3 collection.
For example:

The following artist are not visible in "browse artists": Beyoncé, Björk, etc..

The Following song are not visible in albums: Enya - La Soñadora, etc..

And a lot more
Ok, i know this is a problem related to special characters "é", "ö", "ñ".. so:

Am i doing something wrong or did i forgot something?
It's an issue of 6.2.2?
I can't install 6.5.1 bcos i have some issue with MusicMagic Mixer and LastFM plugin (the first continue to rescan my library each time i restart the server and i end to have each artist repeated a lot of times) , the second simply doesn't work correctly, each time i try to play LastFM, Slimserver stop to work with CPU at 100%. Useless to stop the service, i have to terminate it and restart to have it working again.

Then..
If i can't do nothing, and i have forcefully to change all the names with normal chars (and i have a LOT of them) someone can suggest me a good ID3 tagger that can do it for me?
I mean changing "ö" with "o" and so on, or do i have to do them all by myself (Doh!)?

Even every other help will be appreciated, really :)

Thank you again.

When you say Beyoncé, Björk, etc are not there, do you mean the artist doesn't show up at all in browse artists?

Or do you mean that the accented letter is missing from their name?

What do the tags look like if you browse to the specific tracks with Browse Music Folder from the web interface?

Does it say you are using id3v1 tags or id3v2 tags (or both)?

The unicode fonts in a special directory stuff is for the display on the SB itself. The rest *should* work without any special handling.

Tell us more and we may be able to help you.

I know there was some work done recently in this area, which may or may not address your problem, depending on what exactly is happening to you.

I mean that they're totally missing from browse artists
(btw, i tried to do a search and advanced search for song name, album name, genre, year, they're totally missing like they aren't on the hard disk)

What do the tags look like if you browse to the specific tracks with Browse Music Folder from the web interface?

In 6.2.2 there's no Browse Music Folder (for what i've seen)
Checked on: Bagpuss, dark, default, default2, light, ExBrowse3, Fishbone, moser, nbmu, purple :(
Should i activate it in some way?

Does it say you are using id3v1 tags or id3v2 tags (or both)?

I'm using both id3v1 and id3v2 tags (normally i use MusicMatch Jukeboxe to tag and add album cover, then i use MusicMagic Mixer to rename and move them inside the Music Directories of the SlimServer ie. d:\musica\B\Beyoncé\Beyoncé - nameofthesong.mp3

I thought it was needed for SlimServer too, tnx for clarify it :)

Tell us more and we may be able to help you.

Ask me whatever you need, i would like to avoid to rename/retag all of them. :(
I hope to be clear enough, tell me if you need some other info.

In 6.2.2 there's no Browse Music Folder (for what i've seen)
I'm running
SlimServer Version: 6.2.2 - 5648 - Windows 2000 - EN - cp1252

My default skin looks like this:

Your music library contains 556 albums with 8595 songs by 2260 artists.

• Browse Albums
• Browse Artists
• Browse Artwork
• Browse Genres
• Browse Years
• Browse Music Folder
• New Music
• Favorites
• Random Mix
• Browse Playlists

Does yours look different?

Should i activate it in some way?

Not as far as I know. I'm not aware of a way of turning it off.

I'm sure you do want to avoid that. I would too. It's a lot of work.

Let's fix one thing at a time ... starting with why you can't Browse the music folder directly.

Yeah:
It's missing "browse music folders"

Your music library contains 1176 albums with 4226 songs by 762 artists.

• Browse Albums
• Browse Artists
• Browse Artwork
• Browse Genres
• Browse Years
• New Music
• Favorites
• Random Mix
• Browse Playlists

I have Slimserver 6.5.1 installed in a different directory and there i can see "browse music folder"...
Should i try to do a clean re-install of SlimServer 6.2.2 at first?

This means that you didn't set a Music Folder in Settings. It's not always
needed. The question is - what are you using as your music source? iTunes?
MusicMagic? MoodLogic?

Do you mean 6.2.1 and not 6.5.1?

Hmm...I just took a quick look through the code.

There is a situation where Browse Music Folder won't show up, and that's when there is no audio directory set.

So go to Server Settings, and the second item is Music Folder. Is there something filled in there?

If says you can leave it blank if you're getting your music from iTunes. Are you?

I see QuickDraw McDan was faster than I. :-)

Yes, i'm using MusicMagic as music source (i just love it) XD
And about re-installing i was thinking of my 6.2.2 maintenance branch (as i told you i have some issue with 6.5.1 so i would like to stay on 6.2.2 until they're not solved completely)..
So yes, i left The music folder in SlimServer empty. now i'll add it...
.. 10 mins later..
Ok, i put it and now i can see them correctly while doing "Browse Music Folder" with the correct names (Beyoncé)
And now i can see them even doing "Browse Artist", even if i can't use MusicMagic Mix on them (no mmm icon near them).
I'll try to do a "clear and rescan" action, then i'll tell you something.

Well, that sounds promising. I don't know why MM doesn't handle unicode properly, but perhaps Dan can comment on that.

I'm going out shortly, so won't look at this thread again until prob'ly tomorrow. Just leave a note with how you made out.

K, i waited long enough to see if he's reading Beyoncé or the song from Enya, and it's working perfectly.. no i have all of them in the database.
So seems that there's a problem between the MMM Api and SlimServer (i'm using MusicMagicServer headless service).
They can't talk each other when special characters are in the song's name..
Now what can be done to solve it? Is this a problem of MMM or a problem of SS?

This is an MMM bug - they're working on it.

They had a problem with 1.5 betas, which I reported as far as the linux
builds. The more decent rc2 fixed that, but also seems to rescan very
slowly.
