View Full Version : Continuous network traffic even when paused?

Hello,

I just set up my SB2 and it's working great. I do notice one annoyance, though. Even when my squeezebox is paused/powered-off, my slimserver machine has constant network traffic forever. If I unplug the SB2, the traffic stops. This wouldn't be a big deal, but I use the WinXP tray icon to let me know when other network activity is happening. This constant activity is making that useless. Is this known? Is there anything I can do?

Thanks,
BoB

Everything the squeezebox does comes from the server, including the
scrolling characters on the display. When paused, the server is still
sending the info across the network for the display.

Yes, this is by design: the box itself is rather stupid. Everything it
displays is delivered by the server, even the clock screensaver.

You could connect it to the Squeezenetwork - traffic then does not go by
your machine.

The basic problem here is that the SB is dependent on the server for pretty much everything, so as long as it has power, it is chattering to the server. The traffic while "idle" should be very low, but it will be there.

May be nothing you can do about that... unless you want to get tricky and set up some fancier network monitoring software and look for traffic on ports other than the ones Slim is using...
