We're enjoying the SB3, bout our normally fast system has been very sluggish lately. I'm trying to determine the source of the poor performance.

Since I'm in the process of importing my CD collection. I'm wondering if Slimserver is constantly trying to catch up to all the new tracks being imported. I

don't see high CPU utilization, but performance of the whole system is sluggish. I see that there have been some performance enhancements in 6.2, should I try that?

Here's some background. I have been importing my whole CD collection into iTunes. At this point we have about 4,000 songs loaded. (We have 3 iPods in the family, so iTunes is the logical choice.)

My system is:
Athlon 3500+
1GB RAM
RAID1 volume for system
separate RAID1 volume for music
Slimserver 6.2.1
latest iTunes

Thanks in advance,

Dan

Server settings->iTunes->iTunes reload interval. While you are
ripping, set this to a high value or even zero to disable it while you
are ripping. Otherwise, the iTunes data is being reloaded every 60
seconds, and thus killing your performance.

I am trying 6.2.2 and so far performance has been good. However, Slimserver got the initial view of iTunes and has not updated since. And it's been a few days. The iTunes Reload interval is 3600. Is there anything else I should be setting?

the reload interval is simply a minimum. If there are no detected
changes in the itunes library, then nothing is reloaded.
you can also go into server settings->debugging, check d_itunes and
click change. Then click on the link at the end of the description
text at the top to open a view of the log. You'll see noted about the
periodic test for any changes with iTunes, and the details of the
reload if/when it happens.

Thanks. I'll try this. (I had loaded the Live at the Wetlands by Robert Randolph into iTunes and it never showed up in Slimserver.)

I turned on d_itunes and d_itunes_verbose. Then added 3 CDs.

1. Never saw any output from putting Slim into debug mode.
2. The CDs show up in iTunes, but not in Slim.
