View Full Version : OT: How to set cover (APIC tag)?

Hi,

sorry for this OT article. Perhaps somebody from this group can help
with the following:

Since several month I'm searching the web for a small application that
will set cover tags (APIC) in MP3 ID3V2 tags.

I'm looking for a command line tool (no GUI) and it should work on Linux
(if possible). The official id3v2 command line tool just does text tags
and doesn't work for the APIC tag.

Thanks a lot and sorry for buttin' in.

Hi,

thanks for your answer.

I saw this tool already. I'm looking for a tool that attaches a cover to
the MP3 file itself (in the ID3V2 tag called APIC).

Sorry, that code doesn't touch the APIC tag, only extracts metadata
from the mp3.

I do have some perl code I hacked up to read the APIC tag out of iTunes
files, so it should be pretty easy to do the reverse. I'll look around
for it and post it if I can find it.

Replying to myself....

I couldn't find my code, but I found something even better in my
bookmarks:

Victor,

thanks a lot. I'm using MP3::Tag since a long time now but couldn't find
a way to attach the correct binary data. That's what I was looking for -
exactly.

I know that MP3::Tag has a problem. It creates files with the
unsynchronised MP3 header flag set. Some player crash on files like
these. Luckily Squeezebox doesn't crash ...

Thanks.
