Is there any way to make the Squeezebox work with the abovementioned remote?

Thanks a lot for any help...

You might be able to do it yourself: turn on d_ir in settings/debugging
and open a window with the debugging output. Then point the remotes at a
player and hit some buttons. Slimserver should output the ir codes it
recognizes. If it does, you can create your own custom .ir file where you
assign functions to these codes. Take the jvc_dvd.ir file as an example,
copy it to eg. philips9800.ir and edit the ir codes.

And when you're done, please report back ;-)

Thanks so much. I just got Squeeebox and got to the settings/debugging page but then I got lost. This may sound stupid but how do I "open a window with the debugging output"? I may need a little bit more help for lack of sophistication but an already thankful for the first leg up you gave me.

There's a link on the Server Settings/Debugging web page - in the text at the top where it says ...

You can view the most recent log entries here.

'here' is a hyperlink which will open a new window with the current log file. If you refresh this window it will show the IR codes received by the slimserver

However from a very brief look at the Philips web site I think the 9800 should be able to learn the codes from the Slim remote

Can the 9800i accept hex IR codes from a pronto type configuration file.
If so you could download my pronto ccf
http://brucehartley.com/cinema/

and transfer the codes from there.

I tried for the remote to learn from the Squeezebox remote but that did not work. I sent in a request for help to Philips support but have never gotten anything from them but autoreplys....

You could learn any codes onto your remote, then follow this procedure and the system will respond to these codes.

I must be the dimmest person on this forum but when you say "this procedure" is that the one below, that I have written some additional questions in IN CAPS below?:

"You might be able to do it yourself: turn on d_ir in settings/debugging

copy it to eg. philips9800.ir [HOW] and edit the ir codes HOW?]."

P.S. Philips asked me for the 16 digit HEX code for the squeezebox remote..does anybody know?

Assuming you are using Windows:

(1) Open up Windows Explorer. Go to C:\Program Files\SlimServer\server\IR

(2) Select the "jvc_dvd.ir" file and *Copy* (right-click is a good start)

(3) *Paste* into the same directory. You will get a file called "Copy of jvc_dvd.ir". Right click it and *Rename*

(4) To edit it you can use Notepad, though it looks a bit messy as the file doesn't have the same end-of-line markers that Windows expects. You can either live with this, or download a free editor that is a bit more helpful... I use pspad from http://www.pspad.com/en/ To make Windows use Notepad (it won't know to do this by default for a .ir file) you could right-click, *open*, then select from a list of programs

Have you tried setting the 9800 to use an AV device of DVD Player and brand name JVC?

I think any model number should do - but you could try working through them all if necessary

(No learning, editing etc required)
